I recently received a GPS based G-Tech Fanatic series meter and decided to test it out in the GTS today. The meter measures position of the vehicle and calculates essentially everything you can determine from position vs time.

Anyway, I made 2 attempts to 60mph. The first run I spun the tires to about 30mph... result was a 4.2 second 0-60. The car is stock except for K&N filters and no rear muffler. I also have Kumho V710 slicks in the rear.

The second attempt was a pretty clean launch and netted a 3.8 second 0-60. Does this seem reasonable? These are road course tires and I've launched this car only a hand full of times. The peak acceleration was just over 1.0G during the launch. The published numbers I've seen for a stock car put it at around 4.1 seconds.

When the GTS first came out, many magazines rated it in the very low 4s to 60, and low 12s in the 1/4 mile.

Now that I got my PS2s on, I think I'll try the G-force again.

Wow, last week I was shown as "Venom", yesterday was "Member", now I'm just "Enthuisiast". It's like they let me down slowly!

Throw on a real set of slicks and learn how to launch and you will be in the 2's

I'm used to a 400hp FWD car that would be hard pressed to manage a 2.0 60' time on summer street tires. The GTS is just crazy-fast compared to anything else I've driven on the street. I guess RWD with 13" wide tires will do that for you.

Now, I'd LOVE to run an 11 in the 1/4 on these slicks... That'd make my day.

On a track I managed a 3.73 0-60. I think that was my fastest in the GTS. If the track ***** or is totally upprepped, I can't imagine that I would be able to get that and with a better prepped track, I bet I would be able to do better, but I thought that was pretty decent for the car on that track.

Over the years when i was younger reading about them daily.. they ranged from 4.0sec to 4.4sec within Motor Trend, Carandriver and Road & Track Magazines. I'm hoping after all my mods I can hit somewhere around 3.5-3.6 sec. Although having 19s and 20s, I'm not sure if I'll be able to without gears :(

A friend of mine has a 97 GTS with 19's in the rear. Next time I see him I'll put the G-tech in his car and we'll see how it performs. His car is similar to mine except it has a large 2.5" exhaust and smooth tubes.

Then we can try the old car for kicks also! I wonder how well it will work on the bikes. We need a good weekend to test the cars :drive:.

I don't know 0-60 times but at Carlsbad drapstrip on the same day I spanked Makara's time in my 2000 Creampuff, I ran a 12.04 @ 120.x mph with a 1.84 60' time on PS 1s :D

This has been beat to death but still makes me smile. The rags were all 4.0-4.4. But I do recall one running a 3.9.

I personally never did better than 4.3 0-60 in my stock 1999 viper with an FX2 timer.

But likely my driving and the tires were to blame.

Basically a 15 year old 1996 GTS Viper is still capable of MODERN supercar performance. A realistic 0-60 in 4.2 seconds car and 12.2 at 118 mph 1/4 mile car. Not quite as fast as the 2010 GTR or 570 LP superleggeras or F458's.

But will most defiently give a F430 or 04-05 Gallardo a run for its money

So what your basically saying is....Viper=legendary? I guess that is why I've wanted one since I was ten years old. I can't stand waiting much longer, but I'm almost there.

Forget about this 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile run! You guys to need to grow up and move onto the standing mile run. Then and only then you can truly see what these cars can do. Everyone should stop seeing the Viper as a handicap against any of the modern supercars. All I can say is that I went to local standing mile run with the VCA and my 02' creampuff with just some GG heads and cam on pump gas and spanked everything out there with the exception of a DLM twin turbo Lambo. Enough said, I rest my case.

I have to agree with you 100%. Too bad there are not near as many standing mile venues or even 1/4 mile tracks as needed. If there were enough, street racing would happen a fraction as much as now and the roads would be safer.

:rolaugh: Yeah that was with my Gen I, with bald ass tires, my first time at the track. I do recall that day Ron showed up, looked at the track and said, "Damn, I didn't think they meant THAT kind of drag strip" He went home shortly afterwards.

Don't mean to derail this thread... but I will. What were your time and/or speed? I have very similar mods/hp to yours and plan to try this in Texas in May. Any advice you feel like giving? Thanks.
