I am ready to install the seat back in the car, but have a question. When you are attaching the lever cable to the other side, do you leave the copper ties on or just the one piece. I cant seem to pull the lever hard enough to release the opposite side slide. Help please, the car is torn apart and the garage is a mess, need to finish so I can get my other cars back in the garage.

Thanks in advance

I just ordered the 1 inch kit, I'm sure I'll be needing to know the same thing. Is your car an SRT or GTS?

The Northwind lever cable is not particularly well designed. The cable has to be exactly the right length. Too long, and it won't actuate the seat release, too short, and the rails won't lock in correctly. Mine worked well at first, but then the wire seemed to stretch a bit, and the seat wouldn't adjust after that. I fiddled and messed with the wires that were supplied with the kit, but could never get it to work well. It always became too loose or two tight.

Here is my solution:

Go to the hardware store: Buy some thin guage braided wire, some wire crimps, and (the key part) a "length adjuster." I have no idea what the real name of this "length adjuster" is, but it is made up of two small threaded eyebolts threaded in oposite directions into a hollow bar of aluminum. The result is that when you turn the bar, the eyebolts both either screw in tighter or else both get looser. When put in the center of the wire, this allows the length of the wire to be easily adjusted to exactly the right length.

You crimp a piece of the braided wire to the seat rails on each side, crimp the wires into the eyebolts in the middle, then fine tune the length of the wire by twisting the adjuster bar until the wire is the proper length.

I hope this all makes sense.

Kai

Thanks, makes me feel better that its not only me. I bought one of these for my GTS and never finished putting it on because the wire kept stretching and I couldn't adjust the seat. So I just ended up putting the original back on and wasting 200 or so dollars. I didn't want to waste another $250 so I have installed the seat, but I can't adjust it. When I have the seats out to install the roll bar I'll make the changes you suggested. You should email Northwind and give them your solution, their design is not very good.

The two inch seat lowering kit works very well, but the seat is no longer adjustable front to rear. It will, however, still recline. The "two incher" one puts me in exactly the right position to drive this car (04 SRT-10). For those of you with adjustable pedals, this would seem to be the way to go. I am 6'4" and 240 and it fits me very well. My wife can also drive the car by adjusting the pedals and moving the seat recliner back up (I sit with the seat fully reclined). She's 5'8" and 135, so most of you guys could probably use the 2 inch seat lowering kit too. Just a thought if the seat adjuster on the one-inch lowering kit is such a hassle. Good luck. :2tu:

Thanks Jerry, how's this?

Brad

PS, Tony called me last night, I guess we're having trouble getting people to commit to things. I think I'm driving over to Leguna Seca on Saturday to give my support (don't know if anyone will take the chance to give me ride though  ).

I guess admin has to approve my change first.
