If a shop won't return your phone calls after 10 tries, why bother? Try another source??

Enzo,

I don't think they are custom at all. I would try calling Kyle over at House of Speed and see what he has to say - he used to work at HMS. Other than that, any good shop should be able to get the specs on those rings - it's only a matter of size, not a custom made piece.

You could even call JE yourself and I bet they could get you a set of the right rings. Are your cylinder walls OK? Did you get them checked? I would be curious *why* the rings failed in the first place. Until you ascertain the cause, can you really know they won't fail again?

Unless you have one of the older HMS (514cid) stroker motors, you are probably running stock pistons. HMS was not modifying the blocks in his later engines. My '97 650R was built by HMS in the spring of '00 and has a stock block and bottom end.

ENZO, make sure you get your car's A/F ratio checked out while
your car is in the shop. An overly lean mixture at WOT seems
to be a common weak point in most of the HMS motors.

I heard there is also a new shop in Houston, HMS's most recent mechanic left to be part of it a month or so ago. http://www.racingsolutionsinc.com/

There should be no reason you could not get the rings right from the mfg. (if Kyle (H of P) or Roy (TNT) or Larry (think he is helping out Sean Roe) remembers the mfg's name) I'm thinking Larry was at HMS in '98? All they should need is the groove dimensions off your piston, and bore dimensions off you cylinder liner.

How did they fail? You must have pretty good luck. The one time I had a ring break, the liner was damaged. Busted piston rings are good for that! Mike is right, you need to find the root cause, if incorrect end gap was the root cause, it is possible other rings in other cylinders might be at risk.....
