Ok, here is the deal on my 98 GTS. I noticed that the needle on the temperature gauge was fluctuating slightly at cruising speed, but the fluctuation was minimal. Probably no more than 5 degrees or so. Then it got worse and at slow speeds or idle the engine was heating up to the mark(.)

temperature even at idle on hot days never got past the mark past 190 and it certainly didn't fluctuate very much during driving. Also, at highway speed in the past, the car ran a bit below the 190 tick, now it won't go below 195 or so. Well, I figured it was time to go see my friendly (haha) viper tech. He alerted me to the problem of a leaking gasket around the thermostat housing and told me that this was the problem. So, I had him replace this gasket as well as the thermostat and of course he had to flush the coolant system and put in new coolant. On the drive home I watched the gauge and the symptoms were still the same however at highway speed it did go back down to below the 190 tick again, but it still fluctuated and at slow speeds and idle it behaved as before and went back up to the high mark again. Now, I don't know what to do. I'm going to try and "burp" the system as in JobB's instructions tomorrow. I also read in some previous posts of someone who experienced similar symptoms, that the water pump should be looked at. I read that if you turn the heat on in the car and no hot air comes out that the water pump could be to blame. I tried this and I got heat from the defroster and from the floor vents, but not from the panel vents. I don't know what to do. Help please.
