If SRT is so fast than why GTS stock beats it? [Video]

Yes, that is all it takes. As long as you limit the "test" to the period of time where the GTS has the upper hand. If this were a true test you would have heard the GTS shift WAY before the SRT. The GTS would have shifted at somewhere near 5600 rpm (with 3.55 gears and smaller tires) and the SRT at near 6000 rpm (with 3.07 and larger tires). The GTS would have been halfway through 4th before the SRT shifted to 4th. But that only works if they go a further distance and the SRT driver revs the SRT to near redline. Another way to look at it the SRT should have started in 2nd while the GTS started in 3rd. That may cause a little difference.

Russ,

Nah, don't have my SRT - I took a pass on the car and let Woodhouse keep it in return for a "good deal" on an 04. I was really REALLY hoping for yellow in '04 but that didn't happen, so I'm going to have to think about whether I want to take my 04 or not. If I don't take it, I am going to get a 99 ACR (black/silver) and I have some very special plans for it :)

Chris,

I responded over on the alley. You missed the point - I'll pick it up over there where I can swear at you and call you names :)

EDIT: I'll also post on the thread you linked

You cannot talk about dyno numbers with mods as it changes everything. Stock for stock the SRT-10 is faster.

What the video shows is that a modded GTS with gears can beat a stock SRT-10 when rolling from the same gear.

So all it takes is 3.55 and 410RWHP to beat stock SRT.
YUP :D

I guess that we should outlaw "American Grafitti", "Smokie and the Bandit", "Cannon Ball Run", "Grease" and cop movies because of their racing content that may have inspired people to race. I don't think that someone's clip on the internet is going to make me want to street race...I think I have more will power than that.

I can't believe you people are still debating about this issue. Only a few of you have gotten it. Those two races I got killed, yes. we started in the same gear. when I started in 2nd, I was faster just about every time (as BlueGts had mentioned in his post). The srt "winning" videos Mike conveniently never posted. he knows he got beat the times I used 2nd, yet fails to acknowledge it. at first I thought he was just trying to bust my balls but now I'm wondering if he really believes his car is faster. If he wont ackowledge it he lives in a place called fantasyland. I must say that when I started from THIRD, and punched it, the car felt like it was powered by a mouse running on a wheel! I was kind of saying to myself, "damn this car is slow." After getting spanked a couple of times it dawned on me that the car needs to be reving higher - DAh! If anyone wants to shoot videos of a real race - meaning I start in whatever gear I want and so does he - no problem. As for the GTS - I had one and still love it - not trying to put it down. I also admit when I lose. Those two times I got spanked. I also believe there are a few more videos where I got spanked in 3rd again. 2nd gear different story. let's be real people. Mike look in the mirror tonight and come to terms with the fact that you didnt win them all. that's all that needs to be said.

You are right I didnt wint them all, but those are the cleanest runs, the others when you left from 2nd gear, you also left at the 2nd honk and there was too much traffic as well ;) I wish I could run you again, but I no longer have my car :(

Hmmmmm, what's in North Miami that would bring a guy down from NY and have him leave his car behind? My guess is more than driving Gerald's car. ;)

My math says a 1.3" taller tire on a SRT is about the same as changing the Gen II from a 3.07 to a 2.92. Not an all-conquering advantage for the GTS in itself is it?

Today at Milan I had the opportunity to run several times and kind of hone in on the SRT likes and dislikes, and at the same time compare it to a Gen II RT/10 that was dynoed at the same facility/same day as my SRT. The RT/10 is not stock. Can't remember all the details but headers, cat back, VEC, K&N, Smooth tube. The dyno hp and torque numbers were very close. Mine max run was 441 hp and 471 lb-ft. Suffice to say the dyno numbers were so close it is best to call them even when comparing the maximums.

At the track today we averaged about the same mph and et. The biggest difference is the SRT did not need a 3-4 shift Where the RT/10 did. Mind you the conditions were far from optimal. Hot, humid, etc. My top run was 12.359 @ 117.81. His top run was also just about 118. Neither of us were power shifting. I do not have his time slip so do not have specifics. Everybody running street tires was running between 2.0 and 2.2 60 ft times, with most very consistent in the 2.1-2.2 range.

Stock Gen I's seemed to be running around 108-109 mph and stock Gen II's around 112-114. I am sure there are exceptions as this was just a general observation. Obviously a slow day at a track known for low numbers.

So the bottom line is in the 1/4 mile it performed about as expected in comparison to other known cars, but far from the 11.7/123 stated above. I do believe gearing would help immensely, but would add an additional shift, which may negate the benefit (on the strip).

I will post details of the runs in the future (I measured most runs with the G Tech Comp so have additional data to indicate best launch speed, shift points, etc.)

That's actually about what I expected(or a bit better) for a summer Milan time. Was the track rented and cleaned? It's usually such a grease pit it's a waste of time. With a 1.8 or 1.9 60ft at Lapeer you would be very close to 11.90s. You would definitely benefit from a change of venue.
