It\'s AC repair time, I guess...

I got a 2000 ACR with AC. Bought new in June 2000. Had AC charged at the dealer once in 2002. Not blowing cold again.

My buddy hooked up his guages and said there is nothing on the low side. He said it won't take a charge. He believes the compressor is out. Specifically the valves. He is an AC repairman (altho not specifically for cars) and fixes all his own cars (altho nothing like a Viper). So I think he knows what he's talking about. He said the system is not leaking tho. He said he would help me replace the compressor. Looks like it come out from the bottom. Doesn't look like much fun. I'm sure the dealer would **** me tho.

Should I take it to Dodge for a second opinion?

Opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Funny, I just had my compressor replaced on my 2000 GTS last week. Had it done at the as the car is still under warrantee. Service guy said the repair would have cost me over $1500 if I had to pay the bill.

I would have your friend do it if he is good. No one better to do ac work then an ac tech.

I didn't buy the extended warranty, since I never used the standard warranty. The car has been rock solid. It now has over 25,000 miles. Oh well..

Will that 97 RT10 model compressor fit my 2000 GTS ACR? How can I find out?

Part # 447220-3672 of compressor on eBay.

Hey vipermad back off my compressor! :)

Jeff,
Mine was leaking over time.I found it was leaking at the valve. The thing that looks like a tire valve. This might be why your friend did not see a leak,That is if he had a pressure gauge on the valve.

The schrader valves (the thing that looks like a tire valve) are the most common failure for an A/C system - I've had to replace numerous schrader valves over the years on various vehicles, as well as my home A/C unit.

However, the original posting said it wouldn't take a charge, which usually does imply a bad compressor, from what little I know on the subject.
