K&N\'s installed...Not what I expected
Installed the K&N intake system on a bone stock '05 yesterday and what a disappointment. Followed the instructions verbatim, was very simple, took no time at all, air temp sensor was easy to remove everything bolted back together as expected.(yes disconnected the battery) I don't even need to go to the track to confirm she LOST POWER. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. I'm still in shock. I thought maybe the outside temps were a little high. Put it away for the night. Well drove her again today and the same. The seat of the pants difference is amazing....but in the wrong direction. There are two theories I have:
1. There is an opening 360 degrees around the plastic intake bridge and the air filter housing. I know the stock system was completely sealed and would build up pressure in the filter housing. Could this make such a difference.(I remember someone made this point in A tale of two filters thread)
2. I removed the plastic piece in the hood scoop that directs water away from the filters. The K&N system does not have the screw and wing nut that bolts there plastic intake bridge to the metal piece on the underside. As a result the plastic housing that holds the filters is not exactly in the same position
as the stock system. With the hood closed and looking thru the scoop, the top piece of the plastic housing that holds the filters does not line up with the top of the hood scoop opening. It hangs a little lower and there is a space where intake air is going. Above the housing not into it and thru the filters.Granted the space is small but there non the less.
Anybody have any thoughts. I am contemplating reinstalling the stock system and adding just the green filters.
