Need help with lightweight track wheels . . .

I am researching lightweight rims for use in both SCCA Solo 2 and for the occasional track day/high performance driving event. The way I read them, SCCA Solo 2 rules appear to dictate that to compete in the stock class your wheels and tires must be of the same size and dimension as those offered stock on the producton car; so I am limiting my wheels to 18 x 10'' front and 19 x 13'' rear per OEM specifications.

I have a few choices out there but my main candidiates thus far are:

(1) the "blem" rims from PartsRack (these are the OEM sidewinder 5-spoke wheels but painted silver instead of chrome finish); or

(2) Forgeline SP3P 3-piece rims in the stock sizes. (Note: I know Forgelne made a lightweight VR1 model at one point but they told me that rim is not being produced in the stock sizes anymore.)

Forgeline stated that the weight of the SP3P rear 19 x 13'' rim is 26 lb and if I order titanium bolt and jet nuts that will save another pound per wheel so 25 lbs.

My question is, how heavy are the "blem" rims from DCX/PartsRack? I know they are appoximately 8 lb lighter per wheel than the stock OEM 10-spoke rim but I do not know the actual weights of the wheels.

Finally, is anyone aware of an even light rim on the market in the OEM sizes that would be safe for track applications?

It's not exactly what you're looking for but I have the SRT Sidewinder blems with 18" 285's and 19" 345 Pilot Sports (not runflats) mounted on them and here are their approximate weights:

front - 47 lbs. each
rear - 61 lbs. each

I can't seem to find where Michelin lists the weight of the tires but perhaps that information can be of some value to you

I could be wrong, but I THINK the lightest wheels, without going magnesium are the SSR Type C RS. 20 lbs. 18x11 front, 22 lbs. 18x13 rear. Not exactly stock sizes for your car...

Great wheel and tire combo, I run them on mine and love them. The car handles and rides better and smoother. I am running 32 PSI. Weight savings over stock wheels and run flat tires is 44 lbs.

when I put those on my car it felt like I gained 50hp from the weight savings!!! plus they look hot!!

Thanks for the responses. I was aware of the SSR wheels but was not sure if they were available in 19 x 13'' and 18 x 10''. I looked on the TireRack web site and they do not list those sizes. Does anyone know if they make the rim in those sizes?

the ssr's come only in 18's and you will have to buy an e-brake relocte kit. But really good track tires only come in 18's anyways. wether it be 1/4 mile or road course

dont know if the video was posted here or the ally(just recently) but it showed a wheel at SVS that looked like the SRT-Sidewinder but appeared to be lighter

the SVS wheels are magnesium and $$$$$$$$. CCW is likely your best bet. The SSR's do have a 19, but it's only 19x10

Using titanium fasteners and jet nuts should save you a pound each for a total of two pounds per wheel. I have SX3s on order with that hardware combination for a two pound savings per wheel. It is also stated on their website.

Thanks for the tip on CCW wheels. I looked on their website, http://www.ccwheel.com/files/home.php , and the SP600 and SP500 looked nice and were available in the OEM sizes. Does anyone know where I can get wheel weight information for CCW wheels? Thanks again for your help.

I'm not sure about CCW weight but John took good care of me. After years of beating the snot out of my three-piece Purners a crack developed in the center piece of one wheel. He replaced all four center pieces with upgraded centers FREE OF CHARGE!!! I don't know if he wants me to relay that much info but I can't help it, it's tough to beat that kind of service. Thanks again CCW!

In contrast, I had a Forgeline that developed a crack and they wanted to charge me to fix it.

What kind of tires would you run on these? Stock tires would fit on the rears, but what about the fronts?

I'd be much more inclined to buy 18 inch wheels that I could use with Pilot Sport Cups, or 19/20s that I could use with PS2s
