I left my key turned on for a few days and of course the battery was completely dead. Is there an easier way to slow charge the battery(with my charger) than REMOVING the rear wheel and liner like the manual advises?

yes, open the hood and on the driver side, close by the brake booster you will see a plastic red cap.
remove the cap, that's the + side, connect the + lead of your charger there and the - lead to any ground .

I located the posts under the hood, but thought they were just suitable for jumping. Wasn't sure about several hours of trickle charging.

They are perfectly fine for charging. No Problem. Sometime down the road though, you might want to pull your rear wheel, pop the panel and inspect the battery and connections. Vipers require optimum current voltage to run properly. Don't forget to check for corosion in the tray.
