New Guy, ready to buy a Viper today,,,,2000 question???

1B3ER69E3YV605367 is the VIN, after lurking on here for a couple of weeks, I remember reading a post about some of the early 2000's had cast instead of forged pistons and was wondering if this 2000 with 3800 miles had the cast pistons?

Is there anything else I need to know?

Unless you are planning on using NOS the cast are fine. There are several members who have a 2000+ model car and are using NOS with no problems. A 2000 may dyno 10-15hp less than an earlier car, but thats not always the case. All gen 2's make the 450 bhp, some are just a little more underrated than others.

Seems to me that the "problem engines" for that year were in the first 100-150 cars ("see posts by JonB via search")....AND, breakin was/is critical...needed/needs to be done carefully...different than in owners manual. You will want to be careful...see who knows car...PAY to have it FULLY checked out by an EXPERIENCED Viper Tech. Have fun with your Viper!!!

Problem with early 2000's (pre Oct. of '99) was the powder coated cylinders. Look at the build date on the lower right hand side of the label on the drivers door, will give month/date/hour of build. If it's post Oct '99 shouldn't be a problem.

BTW - Didn't MumDaddy just kick everyone's A$$ at Hallet, OK (Viper Days Finals) by like TWO (2) seconds in a "Creampuff?"

One benefit of the newer cars is the build quality is noticably better.
(this also adds to the creame puffery) I have had a 97', 00 , and now have a 01 ACR. Even the build quality between the 00 and 01 is noticable. The 99's are kinda between the lumpiest of the lumpies and the creamiest of the creamies. A little of both.

No matter what you wind up with you probably won't be disapointed.

Actually, I just put a deposit down on a 01 Sapphire and get 36 hours to sleep on it.

This whole cream puff thing is BS. I remember reading recently a post about a dyno run at Pocono on a 2000 that was very strong. And, I frankly believe that my 2000 GTS is stronger than my '96 GTS was. The interiors in the newer cars is much nicer. The dash face is grained as opposed to just painted plastic. There's an inside hatch release, and power mirrors too. Oh yeah...and the neutral gear rattle is also gone on 2000 and up Vipers.

My 2000 GTS just made 514 HP at the flywheel and 484 lbs of torque at the rear wheels with headers, exhaust, smooth tubes and catbacks. That's not to bad for a creampuff!

Love the car but can't wait for the 2003 RT/10 and Comp Coupe!

You're all forgetting one of the more important changes. In 2000, the car got a deeper oil pan.

Since I almost never drive my ACR I don't see a problem. LOL
Are you getting stripes? The Sapphire is an absolutly beutiful
color if you live somewhere where the sun is out a lot.(like SD)
