New owner... Two ?\'s -- Idle speed and Remote Programming

Hi,
You must be registered for see images attach

It has been a while since I have owned a Viper. Is the attached picture representative of what a 97 GTS should idle at? It seems the line before the 1000 mark looks to be above the 500 mark. Or is it the 500 mark. If that is the case my car is idling somewhere below 500rpm???

Also I tried searching only to find a dead link about how to program new remotes yourself.
Anyone have this info?

Thanks,
Jason

I wouldn't trust the tach's accuracy at that low of an rpm. Plug a scan tool into the OBD port and get a true reading. At idle my gauge reads at 500 but the real value is about 700.

Not sure on the idle although to me it looks fine. As long as the engine is running OK not trying to stall and all I think you're fine on the idle. As far as the remotes go have you checked this previous post? Look for Ron's 3rd post down. http://vca2.viperclub.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB14&Number=38839&Forum=UBB14&Words=Remotes&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=38839&Search=true#Post38839

To reprogram the alarm to accept new fobs:

Ground the green wire under the dash near where your left knee would be. Turn the key to run (but don't start the car). The alarm LED on the dash should now be flashing. Press and hold any fob button for 10 seconds. The horn will tripple chirp. Repeat with each Fob. Turn the key off, disconnect the green wire from ground.

Note that doing this unprograms all fobs that are not done as part of this session. You can have up to 4 fobs. The sequence times out if you wait 60 seconds.

Look at your guage again. The large hash mark left of the 0 is the 500 mark.
Your car is idling at 700 rpm's.
Analyze the hash marks between the 1000 to 2000 rpm section.

Your idle is at 700.

The 1st mark rjust to the left of 0 is the 500 mark.

Cool, I get it now. The car seems so lumpy that I was wondering if it was right or a plug wire was off or something.
Thanks again,
Jason
