Was wondering if I buy tires and have them shipped isn't the vendor
losing out on any profit he would make from the tires. Which leads
me to believe that most vendors won't install tires that you bring
in either for insurance reasons or profit.
I'm guessing that you mean the local vendor is the one losing out on the profit if you bought from online, so why would he mount your tires?
Good question. I take my internet-bought tires to one of the places that is recommended on the Tire Rack site.
Find a Recommended Installer They are used to handling this kind of business.
I agree that it just doesn't seem right to buy tires online, and then go to a local tire vendor to get them installed. You are supporting a club vendor by buying online; but, you are not supporting your community (sales tax and employment of the workers at the tire shop). However, I have other cars that need tires; so, I buy for them locally from Discount Tire, and for the Viper from a VCA supporter.
Also if I order tires will they be date stamped this year?
You will get whatever is in stock. Because Viper tires (particularly the rears) are generally a low volume product, they are made in batches and what is in stock can be quite old. If you buy from a reputable, high volume place like PartsRack or Tire Rack(same source), you can pretty much count on them at least storing the tires correctly so that older date code tires are still "good." I recommend specifically asking for the latest date code in stock. I don't know if that would ensure anything, though. I recently bought tires (not PS2) online, and the rears turned out to be date code of 2007. A bit disappointing; but, they appear to be as soft and smelly as the fronts which are pretty recent date code.
