Was wondering if I buy tires and have them shipped isn't the vendor
losing out on any profit he would make from the tires. Which leads
me to believe that most vendors won't install tires that you bring
in either for insurance reasons or profit. Just wondering because I'd like to take advantage of the savings that are offered us and possibly not paying a sales tax. Any insight would be helpful.
Also if I order tires will they be date stamped this year?

ALL OVER
ive purchased plenty of tires online and had them shipped directly to the place that does all my repairs. granted its a friend but any shop would be stupid to turn away biz.

if you spend money with the shop on your DD on a regular basis, they should install the tires for you no problem. for a fee though.

if they cant make any profit on the sale, they have to make profit on the install.

A valid question. I just got my new PS2s last week, and priced them from Tire Rack, and through my dealer. Bottom line, my dealer matched TR's price, and cut me a break in the install. It just depends on the relationship you have with your regular shop.

But if you were a member you'd have gotten a better deal through a certain vendor/sponsor on this site.:D

I'm guessing that you mean the local vendor is the one losing out on the profit if you bought from online, so why would he mount your tires?
Good question. I take my internet-bought tires to one of the places that is recommended on the Tire Rack site. Find a Recommended Installer They are used to handling this kind of business.

I agree that it just doesn't seem right to buy tires online, and then go to a local tire vendor to get them installed. You are supporting a club vendor by buying online; but, you are not supporting your community (sales tax and employment of the workers at the tire shop). However, I have other cars that need tires; so, I buy for them locally from Discount Tire, and for the Viper from a VCA supporter.

You will get whatever is in stock. Because Viper tires (particularly the rears) are generally a low volume product, they are made in batches and what is in stock can be quite old. If you buy from a reputable, high volume place like PartsRack or Tire Rack(same source), you can pretty much count on them at least storing the tires correctly so that older date code tires are still "good." I recommend specifically asking for the latest date code in stock. I don't know if that would ensure anything, though. I recently bought tires (not PS2) online, and the rears turned out to be date code of 2007. A bit disappointing; but, they appear to be as soft and smelly as the fronts which are pretty recent date code.

Local independent shops generally make money on the mounting and balancing, and are happy to install tires even if from a third party. I haven't purchased tires locally in several years. We are on our third set on the SRT8, second for the Viper, just bought a second set for the Caliber R/T, and about to buy a set for the SRT4. Of course with our newest sponsor offering tires for just about any vehicle (and giving all profits back to the VCA to make it a better club for you), it's a no-brainer for me. :D
