New Team Tech Harness ALL Screwed Up

Ordered a 6 point harness from Team Tech. Today I went to install it and a monkey must have put the thing together. There were no detachable clips on the shoulder straps (where there supposed to be) and there WERE detachable clips (where there werent supposed to be) on the anti-submarine strap attachment points into the frame. Also, the anti-submarine strap bracket ends would not release from the rotary emergency release knob in the middle of the harness. Great quality! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy thinking about my safety with this POS harness. Team Tech agreed to have me send it back to them after they originally wanted to tell me "how to fix it at home." Come on...Get real Team Tech! This is an expensive piece of safety equipment and should be done right! I did notice a nice "personally inspected by Brittany" notice with my new harness. Great work Brittany!:cuss:

Ill post more after I get it back from Team Tech. I can hardly wait to see the results. I should have gone with a Simpson Racing Harness. I hope they make it right...Ill let you know.

BTW, I had a VERY similar experience. They totally F'ed up the order, and I had to pay for replacement parts, because in an attempt to make them right, I screwed up some of the parts they sent me. Other parts that were obviously missing/wrong they replaced. So ultimately it worked out. But I was out of pocket for what was honestly their mistake, and my attempt to fix it.

The guy who owns/runs team tech is nice enough, sent follow up emails seeing how it all went. But I thought it was an isolated case, so I never posted about it, but funny, guess maybe mine wasnt the first one to get mixed up like this.

I bought a 6 point harness from MGW and it worked fine. Easy to install. To turn off the safety belt warning light I just put a jumper in the safety belt plug under the seat.

We clip our antisub straps all the time - even in the racecar - you can safety wire them so that the clips are unable to open. Especially in a street car, you want the clips so that you can move them out of the way.

I must say that the Team Tech 6 point harnesses, complete with special stitching and accents, that we ordered through Parts Rack were PERFECT !!!! JonB has a special talent for coaching BOTH the customer AND the supplier...all of which netted us a perfect result.

Im meddling here and have spoken to TT about this. I have a concern here:

Old dogs like me were slow to migrate to 6-pt harnesses. I had to learn from The Others (Henry and Janni) that the 6pt will hold you "down and back" into the seat much better. I heard from Tommy Archer that "Ill never wear anything less than a 6pt....it saved my life....in a 5pt I would likely not be here." 6pts anchor your legs and thighs. 5pts DONT.

The 6pt sub belt is an inverted V, laying atop the seat, with the inverted rotary buckle hanging off the front of the seat. When you sit down and grab the rotary buckle, it rights itself so you can see and read the instructions, and snap-in the harnesses. (Diaper-like)

When you rotate the buckle THE SUB BELT DOES NOT DETATCH FROM THE ROTARY BUCKLE. Only the shoulders and laps release. Sub assembly is pin-locked in place. You can use a push-pin, nail, or punch to release it IF NEEDED, but it should not need to come off. THE END USER can easily re-locate the pin-locked buckle to a single lap belt if desired....but its not normally done that way. I have my PASSENGER SIDE done that way so that I can better help my riders.

Snap-In and Bolt-in mistakes aside, (Which TT will fix SAME DAY, SORRY) the rotary sub release I think is a misunderstanding.

Can TT make these v sub belts releasable for people who want a 4 point harness only for the street while having the option to connect the v sub belt for track use?

I would STRONGLY discourage anyone from using these types of harnesses for highway driving. These are ment to hold you in place for a racing enviroment and will cause your death in a helmetless road accident! With the standard belts you can move side to side in an accident allowing you to avoid a broken neck. Do you see were I'm going with this? Please do not wear these for everyday driving!

Thanks for the advice Mark. Me, personally, wasnt planning on driving on the strret with the harness. I actually track the car occaisionally (rarely) with the POC and bought the harness for an added measure of safety.

Mark, you are totally correct. I posted the question as I have been asked time and time again if it can be done. Without a Hans device the chance is real good you will break your neck. I will also bet that ones insurance company will not pay off when they investigate and find that the OEM belts were not worn. Thanks for the input.

Jason, have you been able to turn it off the buzzer? I never could but the dealer did it for me as the buzzer drives me crazy. Believe me, I always use my belts.

Yes.And / Or They are owner-convertible. In fact I have TT 4pts in my passenger side for ease of use (I give hundreds of pace car rides per season). The buckle can be moved to the inboard lap belt. I can easily add the 6-pt V at any time if desired.

The passenger is at a bit less risk---no steering wheel or pedals or steering column. And we are not racing the Pace Car and not likely to get punted.....Pace Car - Safety Car has "Diplomatic Immunity" in that regard!!

Without a Hans device the chance is real good you will break your neck.

Or at least severely hurt your neck. I wear a hans in my short track race car. I crashed hard head on recently, but walked away. My neck was actually the only place that didn't hurt after that wreck.

Did you hear about the drag racer Eric Medien who raced for John Force? He died from severed head injuries caused by his head being wrenched side to side in the crash. It was in last weeks Autoweek magazine dated April 23, 2007.

I have ordered and installed 3 sets of TeamTech harnesses, 2 - 6 points and 1 - 5 point. All ordered throught JonB. No issues with any of them.

Hi Flash,

I am in no way slamming Jon but did you buy the harness from Parts Rack or from Team Tech directly as there seems to be no consistency among our members as to if the hardware provided is correct or not. From what I am reading, buying from Team Tech direct is a mistake. Are all the Team Tech harnesses being delivered correctly with the proper hardware when members buy them from Jon at Parts Rack after he orders them from Team Tech? Or is this a huge Team Tech problem?

I ordered mine through JonB and ordered the Viper Specific harness and hardware. There is really no excuse for TeamTech screwing this up so badly. They have been terrible to deal with and seem to be completely incompetent. I am NOT AT ALL impressed with anything TeamTech. PS. Still awaiting correct mounting hardware!

Well from what Flash has said above it looks like Jon B. at Parts Rack has done everything he can to make sure that TT builds these harnesses correctly. It looks like TT is dropping the ball all the time. I would not want to bet my life on their products when they can not supply the correct hardware. I have always sworn by Simpson and Impact Racing.
