Hi Guys,
Just purchased a new set of PS2's online. I have a question about mounting. Can you trust a place like discount tire or other tire shop, or is this a dealer job? Can't wait to get them on!!

Thanks:2tu:

Discount Tire should be no problem. "Bubba's" Tire shop maybe not. They may "upcharge" the mount/bal since you didn't buy the tires from them though. The main thing is the tech doing the work. Equipment the next. What good is a $10k tire changer and/or balancer if they don't know what the F they're doing. Just a thought.

Make sure they have a run flat tire machine. When I had mine done the machine didn't grab the wheel like regular tire machines

I'm sure most now can handle "Run Flats". I think a lot of vehicles have them now don't they?

When I had mine done there were only a few places areoubd that could handle that tire and rim without messing anything up. Also I had to get a tire on my SRT jeep fixed and Alot of places wouldn't do it so again I had to take it to a place with a run flat tire machine

Be careful on this one. Since you are close, call Tomball Dodge and ask for David the service manager 281 378 1495. They use a really good shop right down the road that does all of their Viper tire mounting and balancing including mine, and they do a perfect job each time. Tell David that Mark sent you. They are very meticulous.

Sounds good. Thanks. I'm way out south here and it's a fair haul up there. I was hoping to find something closer to the clear lake area.

I've used Discount for years ... on my truck and my wife's Cadillac! No way in **** are they touching my Viper. I have damage done to my truck rims over the years and nobody has touched them except Discount. It probably depends on the guy doing it, but my tires/wheels, including the ones I just bought, aren't going to be handled by anyone but my tech.

Discount Tire will be able to handle this. I've used the one on Bay Area Blvd. in Webster several times without any problems.

Discount did mine. Did a fine job. They do enough "hoopties" that 20x13 rims are nothing. My Discount shops have no issue with you being in the bay watching the work. YMMV.

Beleive it or not when I was looking for a shop to balance my wheels, I mounted my new tires myself at my motorcycle shop to avoid scratches, I called 3 Northern Ohio Dodge Viper Dealers and all of them did not have a machine that could handle a 13" wide rear to mount or balance it! I went to a new Firestone Shop 2 miles from my closest dealer and they balanced the set no problem. It's wild that they can sell you the car but can't perform a tire change/balance because their machine is inadequate.

I did mine myself after having them powder coated. They are not much harder than other tires. Most shops should be able to do them.

Be careful with the tire sensors on the valve stem. They can be damaged easily and are pretty expensive. When installing the tires, press the bead into the drop zone just past the valve stem, so the bead doesn't put pressure on the back of the stem/sensor.

Before I bought my tire machine, I used to take my tires to the local Sam's Club. I showed up a half hour before they opened and the guys would mount and balance my tires for FREE! I brought just the old wheel and tire along with new tire and helped them and threw them a good tip.

If you care, most likely they will care. If you don't act like you care, they won't either.

Just thought I'd update y'all. I brought the tire to Discount on Bay Area Blvd. and they did an excellent job. They are use to doing big wheels and they allowed me to drive it in and out. I just verified the jacking points with them and everything was smooth. My rear tires I took off were pretty well new. The tread looks no different than my new ones. They were made in 42 of '08. They would be great for anybody needing a new set of rear Michelin PS2's for their Gen. 3. Buy a new front set and you are set. I am in Houston but would ship at buyers expense. Heres some pics. Taking offers. Thanks, Ken
