Like we aren't crafty enough to make our own pieces and weld them in? Those people are incompetent monkeys. Did they get an installation sheet with it or did they just get 2 slabs of metal with some rivets?

A couple thoughts on the recall. In my case the dealer quoted me a week. When I asked him why, he said he couldn't order the parts till the car was inspected. I politely stopped him and indirectly told him to cut the BS, order the parts and call me when they were in. He agreed without hesitation. If I hadn't objected they would have had my car for a week. The parts kit for the recall is about $500. Are they trying to save a couple of days of carrying the inventory or is it possible they get monies from DC when a car is stored on the property? It sure seems orchestrated.

I believe the actual flat rate hours that DC gives the dealer to do recall is approximately 11 hours. My car took almost exactly 11 hours. Most of the work is in the rear of the car, the rear end has to be dropped to add the gussets to the drivers side of the frame. The repair in the rear is asymmetrical, only the drivers side receives reinforcement.

After reading this post I ran out to my garage and
checked my recall repair. Whewww! was I relieved. Doing
business with a reputable and competant dealer like Buhler Dodge
is a wonderful thing.

How did you end up fixing it? The gussets on my car have been on backwards since I got the car, I've just been pushing my oil filter to the other side of the engine and wiggling it through the power steering lines.

I'm sure glad I had the Wizard do mine (998 only). We had that very conversation about how some dealers were installing the reinforcements backwards making it virtually impossible to remove the oil filter. The Wizard did the job in one day and the workmanship is absolutely perfect. If you want the job done right, Chuck Tator's the man!

Just this past weekend, we experienced a similar problem removing an oil filter from a 96 RT/10. The recall had been done right, however, an aftermarket Hayes oil filter was used. We ended up having the hacksaw the filter in two to get it out. We put a stock Mopar filter back on. We were able to slide it in through the opening the the passenger side lower control arm. We had the car on a drive on lift. So we put a jack stand on the frame and lowered the car slowly, as soon as the front wheel was off the floor, the filter slid right through.

PM me if you need additional information. Unfortunately, I did not have my digital camera with me to take pictures. (figures I forgot it)

Are you sure the Recall was done right? You should not have to go through all of that to get the oil filter out! Check the pictures above to confirm that it was done correctly.

As I mentioned before, if DC would send out a video to all the dealers detailing the correct and incorrect way of handling this and enforcing a severe penalty, like $50,000, to the dealers that continue to ignor this problem (with at least 1/2 the cash going to the victim), I believe that this problem would almost be corrected overnight. I did say "almost" as there will be a few that just won't care until they are hit with the penalty.

DC, you can contact me for more details on this M-F 8am-5pm. I'm going to hold my breath till you call....

The recall was done correct. (atleast the triangulation plate was put in the right way. I agree with Chuck 98RT/10 about the work looking sloppy, especially the welds. To me, the egine appeared to have shifted to right a little bit, possibly needs new engine mounts. Odd situation, but fortunately we were able to work through it.

I can't believe this is still going on. When I had my problems 4 months ago I thought I was the guinea pig and others would benefit from my experience.

I spoke to a lot of people at DCX and even got to the so called "special customer care" dept. The only thing they did was offer to have it fixed at a different dealer but never any type of compensation for the damage. It is clearly the fault of the manufacturer because the brackets were mislabeled in the recall kit. However each dealer has some responsibility in doing the common sense check before drilling or welding. DCX is very hesitant to offer any compensation because it would open up a flood of demands from incorrect installs. They are trying to keep it as quiet as possible but obviously it's getting louder and louder as more and more botched cars are showing up.

 : That's great!!

One good thing and it took allot of fighting on my part  DC is now paying Dealers to repair the Recalls that are screwed up and charging back the time to the original Dealer that did it in the first place!
"That's the part I like!" :2tu:
Do it right the first time or don't do it at all! :headbang:

Cheers,

The instructions are right, the brackets where labled wrong! Now every package I open, someone has crossed out the label with a magic marker! DUH

I'm still working on my cloning. The batches are coming out with two left feet?

Chuck, would I be able to get the recall parts to fox the incorrectly installed gussets myself? Would there be a charge for the parts?

I'm sick.

I've been holding off on doing the recall. I always thought it looked like a hack job anyway, even when done correctly. I would think nice clean welds would be all that is needed instead of all those rivets.

I'm in the same boat. I don't want to take mine in, for fear of not having the car for weeks or months, as with others in my area, plus I hate the rivit look as does Chuck98.

I can't see just drilling out the rivits and leaving the holes.....Weak spots???

Keep us posted on what happens on the fix.

I don't get it.WHY RIVETS?Just weld it in.Lots of competetent people out there that could weld it in place while stress releiving the area and keeping the frame straight.Rivets are for the incompetent non-welders.Should have the x-tra stupid holes welded up,ground down and the plates welded in place by someone competent.Of course the area will be repainted after repair.Any dealer that has mechanics that didn't notice that there was no-way to get the oil filter out should be abandoned at maximum speed.
