NOW THAT I\'M OUT OF WARRANTY,BEST OIL/FILTER TO USE

you might think i'm crazy but i'm so happy that i'm out of factory warranty
because i now can use the best products available with no concern to voiding
my warranty. my car has a grand total of 2400 miles and i am finding that by
doing my own work i'm having a ton better time learning what
this car is all about. now back to my post. what is the best oil/filter available
for my 2002 rt/10. i am racing my car (drag racing) mostly and plan to change
the oil very frequently. racers what do you use. tuners whats your choice. has
anyone tried a brand they are happy with. i have heard that there is oil available
that quiets the v10 somewhat. looking for reccomendations as i plan on changing the
oil today. thanks in advance.

basically i could give a rats arss what dodge has worked out with mobil so it
does not have to be mobil 1 or a factory filter. :D

I use RedLine oil w/ Mobile 1 oil filters. The
RedLine is about double in price of Mobile 1. Mobile 1 oil and filters in all my other vehicles.

Dodge will void the warranty if you don't use Mobil 1 oil and a Mopar filter?? I never heard that before.

I think WANTED's factory warranty just ran out, 3yr or 36K miles.

Re: NOW THAT I\'M OUT OF WARRANTY,BEST OIL/FILTER TO USE

This subject has been beat up a gazillion times.........

Amsoil the last 30 years. 54,000 miles in the Viper with analysis every time changed. Usually run about 6000 miles between changes with the Viper--went 10,000 last year for an experiment, with some track use and autocrossing in the mix. Blackstone analysis told me to extend the drain interval to 11,000 miles. I'll stick with 5,000-6,000 on the Viper. Probably close to a million miles total on other vehicles, many times with 20,000 mile drain intervals and analysis.

No car company can void your warranty for using products other than the factory fill if the products being used meet or exceed the factory recommendations. There are some fluids, like the transaxle fluid in my GMC truck, which are propreitary for some reason. In cases like that you must use the factory fluid. To my knowledge, the Viper has no lubrication fluids in it which cannot be matched by several other brands.

Agree Napa Gold or Wix Gold (same filter). Better flow characteristics than the Mobil 1 which I used to use.

Re: NOW THAT I\'M OUT OF WARRANTY,BEST OIL/FILTER TO USE

This subject has been beat up a gazillion times... Amsoil the last 30 years.

And everytime Steve mentions Amsoil I have to mention that I wouldn't trust it in my lawnmower, let alone a Viper. Sorry Steve, nothing personal, just keeping tradition...

I have been hearing a lot of talk on other boards regarding how quickly Royal Purple and Redline breakdown. Allegedly they are both performance fluids and while they are much better than Mobil on track, they suffer big time over the long interstate haul. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Re: NOW THAT I\'M OUT OF WARRANTY,BEST OIL/FILTER TO USE

Both times I tried 'better than OEM' tranny fluids, I had problems. Big problems (trannies ended up in the dumpster). Neither of these cars was the Viper, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I now always use exactly what the factory recommends in all my cars. Been problem free ever since. Why risk it?

Re: NOW THAT I\'M OUT OF WARRANTY,BEST OIL/FILTER TO USE

AMS does warrant their product, so by using it you have a warranty after Dodge warranty expires. They have a lawyer who sent me a letter in less than a week that their warranty is good on trans fluid even for HPDE's so long as no drivetrain upgrades (like chip). You need to get a high temp product which meets the materials grades for the use (eg, not all trannies have yellow metal), so check your SM for material grade against the oil you plan to use.

Check out Castrol 5W-50W Synthetic. Best range of grade for road racing. Otherwise, I think Mobil 1 0W-40W is good choice for daily driving and engine longevity.

The key is to change all your oils (incl tranny fluid) and filters regularly...at least once a year whether you drive 1 mile or 2,500 or every 2,500 miles. You will be glad you did and have no probs.

Must be a BMW owner cuz them is some thick oils... I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable going that thick on a low mile 488, but that's just me...

I have to agree. I'm curious exactly what people think they are improving on, and whether the risk is worth the marginal/nonexistant improvement.

No filter flows the best! :D

Both Wix and Napa Gold (I like the Napa Gold better) are very good filters, but I'll stick with the one that protects the best.... MOBIL 1 filter. End of story.

Agree Napa Gold or Wix Gold (same filter). Better flow characteristics

Note it only works best if it is not allowing significant by-pass, thus the flow comment. Also the Wix Gold and Napa Gold are the same filter :)
