...they are being bot by "ordinary" people who will actually drive them.

Already, I am seeing more Vipers on the road and that should increase.

Instead of people driving them 2-5k, they will be driven 10-15k per year which means there will appear to be 3-5 times as many on the road.

I think it is hilarious that people buy these cars new and don't drive them.

But then, I also think a lot of people buy these cars and honestly get scared from the power/weight. That's why a lot of them don't drive them. (And what guy would EVER ADMIT that his Viper SCARED HIM!)

LOL

Trust me when I say the reason some Viper owners choose not to put mileage on there Snakes has nothing to do with the power.
Anybody that chooses to buy a Viper does so for the power and performance .

Keep in mind that the majority of Viper owners have other means of transportaion resulting in lower mileage on there Vipers.

Cheers

Only a small % of Viper owners even know about this board.
Many of the guys on this board are Viper nuts, sorry guys, that's the way I see it. Let's just say "serious enthusiasts", that sound's better.

I'll bet most Viper owners never heard of Zaino.

There are probably thousands of Vipers out there that get driven, used and abused, just like any other car.

I'm thinking that the "average" Viper owner get's more miles on his car than the average VCA Viper owner.

Non enthusiast owners just drive the car when they feel like it. I think some VCA Viper owners actually try to avoid adding to the miles on the clock.

I bought mine in January and it was the first car I've owned that scared me. The first week I thought I might have to sell it because it was more than I can handle. Now I've got used to it and the disease has struck. I've added a 150 shot of nitrous and that isn't enough. It's out for 60 hp of bolt-ons and a palm pilot adjustable 300 shot. I can come to this site and not feel like a crazed power *****, just a normal car nut. The car was driven 1,000 miles a year before I got it. I'm on track to put 5,000 on it in a year.

I will--the first time one I drove one, the first time I went WOT, the first time I took a curve at speed I will admit it was a scary experience. I had driven what I considered to be strong cars is the past but nothing compared with the torque and 'holy mother of INSTANT acceleration' a Viper has.

I drive 1,000 miles a month and look forward to Viper Days when I will learn how to PROPERLY drive her at speed.

Is it an attorney in Richmond (Terry who's ViperDrummer on this site?)?

The Viper's power does scare me (at least when I get the rare chance to drive it). The first time I was very, very timid. Just like my grandma, but worse, I've read/heard about all the horror stories, and head "newbie laws". I had to be "peer pressured" into rolling onto the gas from 30-55 mph. I haven't gone 100% WOT, and I won't until I get a Viper of my own. I've only done 55% from a roll and 70% from a stop light. This was my first car driven with over 200 HP. Well...there was the M5 I tried to learn manual on, but I didn't really "drive" it.

Be afraid - VERY afraid. Kind of like respecting mother nature. I'm not afraid of rain and water, but I'd better darn well respect it. Before you know it'll carry you off and drown your butt.

I thought I was real tough in my viper till I did a 360 coming out of turn 4 on Texas Motor Speedway. Pucker factor 10+!!!!

If you push a viper - it will scare the hell out of you...

Hmm.

I'm 19 and I bought one. Because I was shopping for it since the value was down to 50k on most of them.

I've driven it about 2000 miles in 2 months. (1500 of which were in month 1).

What is the purpose of this thread? It seems like he is trying to put down the Viper for some reason. Whats this all about? Its not going to appear 5 times on the road as it did before, if there is an affect, it will be small. We are not going to "suddenly" see like triple or quadruple the amount of vipers on the road, that is ridiculous.

Lamborghini Countach values went down, but I didn't see them magically start appearing as everyones daily driver. This car isn't even my daily driver, albeit I do drive it often.

Now now...Lamborghinis are in a class all their own. A used 85 countach ( not even 25 anniversary edition ) can eaisly go for as much as a brand spanking new SRT-10. That's why you don't see but about one or two a year...lol

That qoute doesn't make any sense. I am a Viper enthusiast, which to me means I actually like to drive it and don't care how many miles I put on it. Your definition means a Viper enthusiast is enthused about keeping it as a garage queen and applying Zaino daily. I do drive it whenever I feel like it. Well, at least as long as it's not raining outside. :D

I have to agree, I got my 99 just 6 weeks ago and it had 6700 miles on it. I appreciate low mileage cars and always try and keep my mileage low, but in this case I have put on 1500 miles so far and figure during the good weather months(about 8 months we are blessed with here) I will drive it alot and would not be suprised to see 5k per year go on her. I have two other vehicles, one also very fast and over 440hp but neither are as much fun as the snake. Drive em if ya got em.

I'm with the "Driver" types - by the time I'm done with my GTS I expect it will be pretty worn out and some young kid will buy it from my estate and restore it back to orginal condition.

For those who have had this car "scare" them - get thee to a driving school or a track and learn how to drive this car hard and safe - its really quite a safe car when driven correctly

A few points.

Vipers are meant to be driven, for that matter every car is meant to be driven. Those that are concerned with miles need to buy shares in Dodge rather than a a Dodge Viper.

Viper prices are as low as they will ever get, the market is bottomed out. So buy em fast or you will be kicking yourself soon for not.

I would be willing to bet that LA has by far the most Vipers per square mile, and unless it is some special occasion I see one about every week. Durring which period I see about 10 GT2 porsches and they cost 2x as much as vipers.

I simply do not care if some Viper owners drive there cars all over hell and gone or if they park them in the garage and look at them.

Vipers are still expensive. Look at prowlers they are way cheaper then vipers and you don't see them on the road all the time. They held their value pretty well and so will the vipers. They don't make RT/10 or GTS's any more and the period of owners selling theirs to upgrade to the new SRT is over with. I believe it was Bill P who said this in a post a few weeks ago about this same subject that there really aren't that many vipers out there. Especially GTS's. Think about the ones that are sold overseas and in Canada and the ones that have been crashed. Also remember what the KBB sais a viper is worth doesn't mean squat. A car is worth what a person is willing to pay for it. KBB sais supras are with this amount and owners are getting way over what there worth and so will the vipers. I'm holding on to mine and would never sell it for what KBB sais I should. The economy is improving and the prices are starting to hold there value. Take Care

I drive 30,000 miles per year (mostly in my Camry). I see maybe one Viper per month. Don't see your logic.

Vipers may currently be losing some of their value, HOWEVER :

- we are still facing a bad economy. There is no certainty that every Viper for sale will actually be sold.
- the so called 'poor' people will only be in the market for earlier model cars. It's not like all of a sudden there's more of these cars available. To the contrary, every week a couple of them are wrecked...

Net, I think prices will go up together with economic recovery. The 'classic' discontinued body style will not take too much of a hit since there's less and less of these cars. Most probably they'll be worth more within 10 or 15 years.

But then on the other hand I don't care a rip anyway since I have no intentions selling my car.

What is it about people who seem to get offended by Viper owners who don't put 15K miles a year on them?
Who cares?
Mind your own business and drive your Viper offroad if you are so inclined. Hell, sleep in it. Just don't act like you are so much better than others because they don't drive theirs.
I saw a TV show the other day and some guy had a 70 Boss 302 with 30 miles on it. Unreal, pretty neat to see an original. We need a few people like this for auto history.
