We need the button that shrinks horizontally large posts so that the entire width fits in a normal screen.

I also liked having the new posts # highlighted so you could tell if you wanted to recheck a thread you were following. Also DON'T like the fact that if you were at the bottom of one thread and jump to another, you start at the bottom (old and new versions). Also, please put all the forums, like the Alley in the drop-down menu. The Snake Pit is there, so why not the Alley, also a members-only forum.

Are you guys seeing something radically different, appearance wise? Maybe it's my browser but from each of several computers the forum is still grey with red banners. During the day the server was down, when I did get on everything was tan and weird fonts. What are you looking at right now?

Don't like it - yet:

<ul type="square"> [*]Flames have to go - they have ZERO meaning when seen on every single thread [*]Font is too small, especially for us old farts [*]Bold type on unread threads was great - now I have no clue what is new (to me) [*]Making changes "on the fly" and during a work day isn't real impressive. Why not institute the full changes as seen by Lee - and do so during the middle of the night like a normal business? Do all the work "behind the scenes" and do a clean swap during the middle of the night. Hopefully we aren't paying somebody an hourly rate to do it one piece at a time. [/list] The one thing I do like so far is the ability to "ignore" certain users (just click on their ID and you will see a button to do just that). Not that I would ever ignore anybody - it's just nice that we won't hear that complaint anymore... ;)

No other board on the internet will have anything on us in terms of features, speed, user options or "look" once it is done.

Big words there....lets hope not TOO big. There is another site that, well, has EVERYTHING one could ask for. Funny how THEIR coders USED to code here.

CHANGE make the forum fit the 1024 x 768 desktop width without scrolling

ADD automatic picture sizing. When someone posts a picture the size of mars it sizes the width down to fit in 1024 x 768 settings automatically ((with a link to the larger original file in full size by clicking the smaller image)). seen it done before &amp; its a huge usability increase.

ADD once someone is a viper owner they can put up an avitar by themselves. patrol the avitars to make sure they are Vipers only.

Andrew...it is a necessary evil to get to the end result. Sadly....no way around it to maintain the data integrity of YEARS of threads.

Be-All-and-End-All of the internet? I doubt it....but it will be an improvement. Both in speed and features....already have "Ignore" so you won't have to read my crap any longer!! :) JK!!!! (I hope!!!) LOL!

Anyone else notice that it wont "remember you" when logging in?

Hey Austin, you're not the 1st to complain about that, but others (me included) are not having that problem. Have you tried deleting all your cookies and cache files and then reopening the viperclub.org page?

Yes. That was one of the first things I tried.

The most pronounced limitation I am running into is that SEARCHES are maxed out to 1 month. As a new Viper owner, I was searching alot and getting years old threads that were VERY useful to me. Now I can't find anything.

REQUEST: Please allow searches to search the entire forum database and not be limited to one month of posts.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the inputs. Keep them coming as they will help guide us as to what you want to see in the final Forums.

As Lee said, this is an "intermediate stop" on the way to the new forums. We had planned to do this "out of sight" (and actually had it running, but not debugged), but were forced into going live with it during an operating system update to the server.

The Forum (UBB) code was so "old", that the new operating system no longer supported some of it's ancient needs.... this forced us to decide between a non-secure server, or a "quick leap" to the compatable version of the current software.... We upgraded many of the other pieces of software the site uses earlier this year, so they were unaffected.

We chose the secure server and "quick leap" to the new UBB Code. Made for a long afternoon and night.

Most of the items here should be fixable with a few hours poking around the upgraded system. The upgrade made the forums look to be "template" driven. That is why for example the serch looks so different, it has a different template than the older version..

Many of the "hacks" mentioned so far appear to be template tweaks. If not, some features may not reappear until we make the final move.

Right now we'll concentrate improving the search and simpler tweaks as they will need to be "redone" any way when we make the final move to VBulletin.

The original plan was to have this version of UBB running "out of site", and only moving the threads "through-it" and into VBulletin. We had to do that as there was not a "translater" written for our very old version of UBB.

The goal is to provide the fetures users like...... and more.

Search Functionality

I can't search...........

Click "search" in the top right box. It has been opened up so you can search up to five years back.

To search a user name, enter ther username in the field marked as such, then select the forum (or all forums, the default) you want to search from the list on the left. Just layed out a little different, still works the same as teh old search did.

Personally, I don't like the fact that it doesn't (anymore) tell me how many new threads are there since i last read. and the font (yes, i've tried jackin' w/ my broswer) just looks too crowded.

What do y'all think?

All opinions welcome!

JD

JD, did you see the function "ignore this user"? Click on the user's name and there is the option. Cool option!

...Just kidding JD!

I guess I don't have a problem waiting for the changes to be finished. Hopefully they will be improvements. But what I want to know is how come it's taking so long?

What happened to chat?

Did one female member's complaints bring the entire thing down?

thanks for the update on the progress jay. will you be updating to the newest version of VBulletin? i so, great. its really comprehensive.

automatically formatting pictures so that you never have to use the lower scroll bar will be a huge improvement all by itself.

I'd like too see options at the bottom of the page that allow you to go back to the forum or other forums. Rather than have to scoll to the top every time after reading the posts.
