RE : Painted Hood liners

Hi Guys
I've seen a few hood liners painted and was wondering.Does anyone have any pictures to share.I would like to have my hood liner painted.But my painter was curious if the paint would absorb through the somewhat soft material,and has anyone had it clear coated after.Also was the hood liner hard to ship to the painter.Thank for any info RICK

i do a lot of hood liners. the only thing is there is no room for mess up's. do not clear it. just check out the links above.

I had a bad experience with Ron, and would advise against dealing with him. He lied about the condition of his product, and then when I returned the items (2 door panels) he kept $70.00 from my refund as a "restocking fee."

Did this myself. Would post a pic, but the login/logoff on my acct is whacked.

All paint was bought at home depot, Rustoleum brand for high temp.

Remove liner.
Use primer on the whole liner, minimum two coats. Let dry.
Minimum 2 Coats of black on entire liner. Let dry

Tape off what you do not want painted next. This takes patience and attention to detail. Don't have either so the wife did this for me.

Paint color(s) of choice. At least two coats.

Cost: For me, primer, black, yellow paint totals about $20.

Its the perfect winter project. I did not clear coat it. I don't think you need it.

Do NOT skip the primer step. Entire process took a few hours. I left the liner on the floor to dry overnight before I put it back on. I have one year on the paint and no problems at all.

Paint it yourself and save lots of $$$. Plus, it is a fun winter project. I used high temp spray paint from AutoZone. The most time-consuming part was masking off the lines. Creating the VIPER stencil took a bit of work also. I used double sided carpet tape to hold it in place against the pad. The base layer black took maybe 8 coats or so to seal.

if you want something very unique to you, Paul H does an awsome job! Here's a link to her website so you can check out her art. If you have an idea of what you want added to your logo, she will airbrush it from a picture you send her or just from what she's done before on Vipers.

She keeps the stock hoodliners in inventory, so all you do is contact her, tell her what you want, and she ships it usually within a week. What I like about the one she did for me is it's very unique, and she puts a coating on it so dirt/oil can't saturate it
