Reverse shift problem

Less than a week after buying my used '05 SRT10 convert the trans. has coded on the 1-3 shift, and is also VERY hard to shift into reverse; it takes both hands to put it into reverse, though all forward gears continue to shift easily. The car started doing this yesterday, sending the engine light into action (not flashing), but on. The 1-3 shift solenoid and the reverse lockout solenoid are both on the driver's side, but I haven't runover anything; just driving easy. the car is an '05 with only 11,000 miles on it. Anyone have a clue as to what is going on here?

There really should be a FAQ for this problem.

You have likely burned through the insulation on your o2 sensors and caused a short and blown a fuse.

The reverse lock-out solenoid is on the same circuit as the o2 sensors.

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Just about everyone who installs an aftermarket exhaust encounters this issue.

Thanks for the reply. No mods in my ownership, but I suspect the reverse lockout solenoid might be unplugged, gone bad or a fuse may be out. I'll take it to a Viper Tech when time permits. Thanks again.

Heat shielding the wires from the O2 sensors, not the sensor itself, stops this burn thru problem from happening. I would check all the above and do a quick scan with a scan tool to be sure. The scan tool can clear the code or you can disconnect the battery and reconnect.
