$18k for a hood
Are all of the other parts as relatively expensive ? What are some of the other potentially crazy expenses that a perspective buyer should know about ?
YES! My Viper was in a hit an run, the tub, hatch, bumper and passenger quarter were all damaged and all replaced.
A hatch new was like $7500 and Chrysler didn't have one and had no body parts supplier in January. We got a hatch, quarter panel and bumper from Jon at Parts Rack that were basically new/ minor flaws. It was much cheaper to go this route and Jon had the parts we needed. If you buy from Chrysler the parts are VERY expensive and sometimes not available.
The total bill was still around $20k....
My car looks great, I have a great body guy. It took me 4 months to get it fixed. So if you have a great body guy and a great parts supplier you can fix the car back to new condition and ALOT OF PATIENCE. I am super picky, so you can be sure the car was perfect when I brought it home.
I thought about flipping my car wrecked because of carfax. I claimed it on my insurance. I decided that I really loved my car and will probably keep it forever, so I had it repaired. I repaired it right. So I have no doubt about the safety. A great repair can be done if you want it riight.
As for why so many get wrecked.....driver error! My husband has sold many Vipers. In 2006 he sold 3 of the 6 sold at the dealer. 3 of the cars were totaled in the first year, 1 person had died as a result and only 3 are left, including mine, but I was in a bad accident. So only 2 are unharmed after the first 3 years. Thise cars both have less than 6k miles on them in 3 years and my car only has 9k miles.
I think my husband sold 6 Vipers in 2008 and all are still alive to our knowledge, but most of the buyers in 2008 were performance enthusiasts and bought because they got a chance to ride in my car. (Its a small dealership)
