Show me your side splitters

I've just ordered a set from Jon B for my 97 GTS Blue/white, and need help deciding how to finish them. They come in raw aluminum. I've seen them finished in body color and would like to see them in polished aluminum or black powder coat if anyone has pictures. Thanks.

I seem to recall a while back, someone posting pictures of their side splitters in chrome. The "computer challenged" person that I am, I'm not sure how to direct you to find it within the forums. I'm sure Tony Vipermadcomputerwizard could help you. I had contacted Roy at TNT several times for a pair he told me he had, that were already painted black, but he never returned my calls

Just my opinion,if you don't like that paint them blue to match the car

Side splitters run down below the side sill,they are aero pieces. I think you are intending to show you're louvres at the back of the hood by the front of the door (correct me if I'm wrong) Maybe I'm the confused one.

John Johns, I think I emailed you pics of my body color side splitters from PartsRack a while back. I also have pics of them before they were painted...brushed aluminum finish and on the car. I think they look nice either way, but I also think they tend to widen the appearence of the car at the lower middle which definitely eliminates any "Clown Shoe" effect I've heard of. I'm about to head out to catch a flight over to Nadine and Neil's side of the pond, but will try to shoot out a picture of the unpainted product to you before leaving.

It looks like these splitters are bent a few times along their length. Is this just a trick of the light, or are they a complex shape? My understanding was that they were essentially a piece of aluminum flat stock. Also, is there a ballpark on what they cost? Finally, do side-splitters provide any benefit independent of having a front splitter/rear wing?

I just received a set of the side splitters for my 01 GTS(from JonB). Quite frankly I was surprised when I opened the package and laid out the splitters on the ground next to the car..under the sills. The splitters are computer cut and they are not straight edged. The side that protrudes from the bottom of the sill is contoured. It does look very strange to me but one can see that it would be functional from a "rock chip" problem and would probably help someone keep their ankles off of the hot sills when they get out of the car. Even though I am not happy with the contour of the splitter(afraid it will look TOO MUCH after market on the car) I am going to go ahead and paint them to match the car and put them on. Will report their looks and functionality after.

Great question...the bolt holes come pre-cut on the splitters and they run horizontal for front to back to front installation movement. The splitter themselves protrude out about 5 inches. Mounting seems to be easy as they just bolt onto the sill underside bolts. I heard that someone had requested that vertical bolt holes be done so that you could move the splitter vertical to the car. Mine are not that way and apparently the "default" cutting is set to horizontal. Once again...I was NOT impressed with the way they seem to look on the car prior to installation. The contour of the splitter is something that is very unusual when you first see it. I am going to have mine sanded and smoothed out as some of the outside edge is pretty rough and maybe the paint will help make it look more OEM and less aftermarket.

As a side benefit...apparently the splitter will help keep some damage away from the really expensive side sills if you center the car on something(parking block,curb,etc.).

To maximize aerodynamic downforce, you want the air flow underneath your car to be as smooth and fast as possible, thereby creating a low pressure system relative to that which flows over the top of your car. Any turbulence created by air flow migrating from the side of your car to underneath your car will hurt this effort. Side splitters and the increasingly popular but misunderstood dive plates on the front fascia are both intended to interfere with air trying to migrate from the sides to underneath your car. The dive plates create vortices down the side of the car. Hope this helps your understanding of the functionality of these pieces.

Neither of these items make any sense on a street car unless you like to carry extra weight or you simply like the appearance.

1) Our sills are VERY inexpensive, and easy to customize. They are less than half the price of some on the web. Under $350/pr!

2) We WILL have them in C-Fibre soon, will be nearer $995/pr

3) We cannot know where to drill the right-angle slots, so we default to forward-aft adjustment. Since they pop on/off in just minutes, once you have the fore-aft set, you can make a slot at right angles and adjust inward/outward. THEN finish the piece.

4) Benefits include REAL aero-improvements: more downforce due to less lift; Less flow into rear wheelwells, and less lift/drag there; Rock-chip sill protection; harder to "kick / scuff" the sidesills; and lastly....if you ever high center on a curb, or off-track, your $2599 -$4000 OE aluminum sidesills are PROTECTED !
