Hi there,

I was just wondering. Smooth tubes are, correct me if i'm wrong, just straight forward tubes clammed on the block in stead of the original hoses, which also go down a bit. (no idea why this is, but I guess smooth tubes eliminate this, which gives the better throttle response)

Isn't it than possible and simple to just buy a piece of samco hose in the right diameter, cut them myself and clamp them with the original clamps?! I guess this is much cheaper (as I live in the Netherlands I will be charged lots of shipping, dutch taxes and costs for importing)

If it's simple as that, can somebody tell me the right diamter or tell me why this is a bad idea?

Thanks

I did mine mainly to dress up the engine.....I understand there is very little benefit from applying smooth tubes to the orginals....if you use generic material be careful because the heat may cause them to narrow during acceleration....

Yes to Samco...they made the curved, black tubes for the 99 ACR's...$240.00 per pair!!!

We made a bunch of them...5-6 colors...using 4-5 ply tubing...worked great...color matched cars...and, best of all, they fit, and cost aabout $60.00 a pair even after importing tubing to Indy.

Roy, I'll look up dimensions for you if you like.

Roy, you have 3 e-mails...one has photo...dimensions are in photo and text...plus a bit of history on the "Adderwear" smooth tubes. Please let me know if you got the info/photo.

I suggest Silicone hoses as they are much better suited to the heat. Sounds cheaper to buy from Steve. Semi tractor parts outfit wanted $10 per inch for 3" hose. The size of the hose should be according to your TB size.

K&N air filters (cloth) and the smooth tubes equal 10hp. GTS 450 vs. ACR 460

For fun there should be another 4bhp if you removed the rain baffle from the airbox and replaced it with a flat aluminium plate (top of airbox). Do not remove the rain baffle if using PAPER air filters.

Sorry, I did not mean to mislead folks with post above...friend Charlie and I have NOT made any smooth tubes in 8+ years. I do recommend the tubing from SAMCO regardless of the retailer.
