Well they start off well with making the baseline for a production vehicle being a car holding NHTSA or the ECWVTA. But then they try and claim the radicals have ECWVTA as they have passed the UK SVA (SINGLE Vehicle Assessment) SVA is not ECWVTA, it is a bypass scheme to allow single cars to be registered without going through all the tests of type approval which is expensive and far more stringent the same as it is in the US for NHTSA vs custom build shops and individual state registration requirements.

Hopefully the GenV will go out there and whip the radicals ass as well, then there can be no more arguments. But it does seem strange that people seem to get more upset and nay-saying when the viper holds the record than when anything else does! I called foul on a news article on another forum i use that dissed the radicals when the LFA set its time, then rolled them out as examples faster than the vipers time, of course i got no response from the author!

Bottom line is all the people talking trash are just jealous because they are not cool enough or have the skills necessary to own/drive a Viper. :)

With all the talk of the Gen V, it will likely not be as fast at the 'Ring as the G4-ACR unless they offer a significant aero package. Has anyone heard that an ACR-like model will be available in the first year of production? That rear wing and its 1200+ pounds of downforce is a significant factor in keeping the car planted at track speeds; a new design with more HP but less downforce may not be able to compete in the sub-7:20 supercar group. I'm thinking an ACR-like model might be something introduced after the initial Gen 5 has been out for a while, as is typical for new car intros.

Another way to look at this is now that they know the Aero that works they can engineer more of that into the body and the aero on the new car may be less extreme and still get a better run. The ACR combines great aero with a wide and torquey power band from a monster NA engine that can overcome the resistance of the wing without having to worry about heat soak. No other existing car can do that. I just made that up but it sounds pretty good...lol

I'm hoping the Gen V runs about the same as the Gen IV ACR and then the Gen V ACR beats what the ACR-X laid down.

It's starting to border on insanity.
I actually got into it with a guy on a Vette forum his reasoning the Viper record was invalid was "I live in a well off area and I have never even seen an ACR".
Therefore its not really a production vehicle.
You can't argue with that logic.

Funny. I live in a well off area and I have an ACR in the garage. His area obviously isn't that well off.

I'd say if the Z06 put down 7:20-ish times and the zr-1 a 7:19, the gen V ought to get at least in the high teens without a wing

Read it and weep, doubters.
Here is the true list from an objective source with plain old common sense applied.

Let us see those crash tests and safety information on all the cars listed ahead of the Viper ACR. Oh that is right, they don't have this info. Not production cars.

Shooter,
I thought I had heard on that on this site. Maybe I misinterpreted "not for street", as "not street legal". When it's called the "track extension", that also makes it sound like it's for the track only, ergo, not street legal. That's just the way it sounds, and unfortunately may be creating the erroneous perception that the splitter extension isn't street legal.

Maybe that's why Car and Driver said this:
Car setup is in the ACR’s lesson plan, too.
For the street, Reece unbolted the front splitter (illegal for the street,it removes easily with eight bolts and fits under the hatch),

Could just be a misunderstanding.

Where was this misunderstanding in 2008 when it set the record with the same "track extension"?

Oh yea, in 2008 it didn't mop the floor with the ZR1 and LFA.

That is the dumbest argument I've heard yet. Based on that logic, as soon as the model year ends on a class winning car it losses it's status. What is that, some new "Wikipedia Rule" the new source for all racing factoids.

And that pretty much sums up why so many ******* have become uncomfortably knotted up for some.

Has anybody else read the discussion on the wiki page for the ring times? It looks like some sort of general rule consensus is being reached at least.

And while we are at it, lets remove all sports records from the book as soon as that athlete retires.
We'll just start over!

These guys are really annoying but everyone that owns a Viper can be damn proud that no Viper owner ever acted so small and pathetic. It's pretty clear why the Viper has the record. If we acted like them when then the previous ACR record fell we'd still be crying but Viper nation just dusted themselves off and marched right back into the fight and kicked ass.

I think when someone finally took the Enzo to the Ring, it was already out of production. So by the same token, the Enzo's time doesn't count either!

I doubt that will change anyone's mind, though!

Vic I bet it's just another instance of a magazine writer being lazy and not doing his/her homework. If you "unbolt the front splitter", I would hazard a guess that the ACR would be dangerous over 70 mph with no front downforce to counter the cessna wing in the back.lol

Valid point. Those that can...DO. Dodge/SRT/Tomball/etc. DID it without trash talking, whining or trying to change the rules. They marched back to the Ring and got it done. Those that CAN'T...well they try to change the rules. I will, for one, not allow the pussification of the world permeate the Ring and tarnish the ACR's feat!

Some dip**** over at Viperalley tried to argue with me about there being a vette bias over the Viper. Even worse is some of the other members agreed. I don't know what they're smoking but the bias is alive and well.

And to the Vette nuts here I do like the Corvette, or any American Muscle. But facts are facts and magazines LOVE the Vette.

He's probably talking about unbolting the track extension piece. But I don't recall it being a street/legal issue?

I remember reading, maybe in my ACR's Owner's Manual, maybe elsewhere, but the track extension's legality is because of it sticking out further than the front bumper, and either federal law or some other kind of regulation mandates that the bumper itself on a street car be the furthest thing forward on the car. Similarly, I've read about the bottom of the wheel rim being the lowest part of the car (in other words, if you have a chassis that sits really low, lower than your wheel before the tire starts, it's in violation).

If I can find the reference on the splitter, I'll post it, but I remember reading about it around the time I got my ACR. It's part of why the splitter is shaped the way it is with it unbolted (that "U" shape) -- so the bumper itself barely becomes the furthest thing forward.

Edit:
Here is the Owner's Manual -- look at 2.1 and 2.3. It doesn't say anything about legality, just that it's a good idea to save your splitter wear and tear:
