those older turbo kits that used the stock exhaust manifolds

anyone remember these older kits or know anything about them? They bolted to the facory exhaust manifold and used i think 2 t3 turbo's? They were intercooled also with a front mount air/air setup...i think they came out of texas. I'm just curious on where these kits came from and some details about them.

PM GTS Dean he knows the history of these kits. I recall Jason Tantizar (? spelling) had one on his GTS

i pm'd gtsdean with out a response yet and don't know how i can get a hold of jason tantizar. Anybody know how i could get in touch with them or find anymore info on these kits????

I believe the one that GTS Dean knew about was from Axis Industries. I am mutual friends with the Viper owner who's car it was originally developed on. They are long since gone.

yes they are axis kits and from what I heard Hennessy developed his about the same time. They used the T3 turbos so they fit without hanging down and the split second piggyback. I think Hennessy just used and FMU ( boost referanced fuel pressure regulator) to tune his first cars and had major tuning issues. (Jamie Parker and Taig's car) Jason was going to do a kit on my car, but went to West Coast Vipers then all the drama started. Jason's car dynoed about 690 RWHp on 10# of boost.

i have a chance to buy a whole new intercooled setup in the box that has been sitting for years without the wastegates and BOV's. When i first saw the pictures of the turbo's they looked like t3 chinese knockoffs and i really doubted they would be able to make more than 5-6lbs of boost.

i have been trying to read up on everything...basically its my understanding axis didnt finish jason's car and he ended up finishing it up himself with the help of other tuners, then started selling the kits off on his own right? I'm not concerned about tuning because I have an AEM ready to install.

to be honest i kind of like the fact the kit uses the factory exhaust manifolds....it may not be the ideal setup, but its still good for some nice #'s and is much less complicated. I just want to get as much information as I can before I take a gamble on a mystery turbo kit.

Was that the kit being sold on ebay? Was 690 on stock fuel? What size turbos?

there was a kit off ebay that used stock manifolds also, but the piping was differant than the older kits. Using the stock manifold has some good and bad points. Good is no cracking stainless headers and the cast manfolds can support the turbo fine, they also retain head better (no burnt plug wires and less heat under the hood). Bad is you will have to make a oil return system as the turbos will be to low to gravity drain in the pan. Also the larger t4 turbos will not fit so you limited to t3 (or making skid plates to protect the t4's as they will hang down about 1-1/2")

alright guys, here are pics of the kit...it looks like the wastegate piping goes all the way back to the rear of the car?

I don't understand how it bolts to the factory header since its a vband, and the piping has a 2 bolt flange.

It has the whole exhaust, and everything looks really good...but i'm just pretty worried about how much work it would take to actually get it on the car and get it working properly. I can get it for a good price, but after wastegates(does it have internal wastegates?), BOV's, other misc stuff, i feel like i may have a lot invested into it and still only have a t3 setup which is easy to max out.

Guys I need some help, I really don't know what to do...someone just tell me!

How much are they asking for the kit?

Are these recent photos, or the original photos when this person purchased the kit?

Is it in still new condition?

It was a far more complex kit than what is available today. I am unsure if you can buy a kit from someone new, like RSI, ART etc... without having them install it but you may compare pricing.

I feel with the kits available now that I would only buy that kit if it is pretty cheap.

That is the Axis kit btw

I don't see any BOV's and they are not built in, also I don't see the wastegates or the oil scavenge pumps. I am sure there will be items you have to purchase still.

i can get it all for 2k.. Those pics were taken today.

I was looking on tial's website and the wastegate flanges on the kits look like a 46mm flange...and they are $500 each...BOV's are just under $250 each. So I would need another $1500 alone in just wastegates, and BOV's...then I would also need the oil pump scavenge parts, and i'm sure a lot of other misc stuff. Also its kinda of a bummer since i'd lose my corsa exhaust with this kit since it replaces the whole exhaust system.

there was a kit like that for $400 bucks on ebay a while back lol

was it as complete and new as this one? It seems like almost everything is here in this kit, and its all in brand new condition.

I would have to say that is worth it. You will spend less than a Paxton kit, and although I do believe the Paxton has more power potential, this is a good price point.

If you purchase it, PM me and I'll ask the guy that they did the original kit for if he has any of the install pics.

that is not the axis kit. its the ebay kit, it is not easy to make fit. the wastegates go off those pcs that bolt to the manifold. This kit is not easy to make work (trust me) you will need alot of other parts. I can help you thru the oil system if you decide to do with it. I would not pay $2k for this kit unless you got decent turbos. The kit did sell on ebay but not for $400 (it never sold I think he had a schill bidder) He sold a couple of these kits that are a copy of the design Dave, the guy that had a blue white GTS with a turbo kit that he ran thru Barrett Jackson. (that car had a top mount turbo system, but he did a side mount first) I think the guy that made this kit wanted $2000, but was letting them go for $1000. The inner cooler is pretty nice and worth $500, the rest of the piping probably another $500. You will need a min of a split second ($400), boost-a-pump, oil system ($600) real turbos ($2000) waste gates and blow off valves ($1200). plus misc other stuff. You could get about 700 hp with this kit at 10 #'s of boost on a gen 2 forged piston car.

Dan, you are obviously correct. The OP did say he had an AEM already though. The turbos are definitely small, but if they are new it is still a good deal at $2k. Although parts cost maybe $1k the labor is worth something. Hard call to make but at that price, or lower you can't really beat it. That is saying of course the OP is mechanically inclined enough to make modifications for fitment when necessary.

BTW Dan, how did you become so familiar with the Axis kit?

sounds like a paxton kit is a way better option for the same HP with a whole lot less headaches.

or even a used ROE

and at 600+ rwhp id want a REAL fuel system on it

Man, I sure do wish building a TT and tuning was that easy...:dunno:

IMO..Tuning is the most important aspect. The AEM isn't "preloaded" and ready to install...trust me...

My TT has been done for a month. The AEM/wiring is the only thing holding me up from starting it. Trying to get it shipped this week to A.R.T to get dialed in.

I would personally pass on this. Just because you can throw all the components together and have it run doesn't mean it will run smooth. You will end up with a Frankenstein and have endless headaches trying to debug it. In the end you will only gain what a typical Paxton or Roe system can make out of the box. And you may end up spending a lot more. Sure the "kit" looks attractive because the price is so low but you have to think about what it would take to make it run right. The tuning will be difficult as well because of the hodge podge of components being used.

If you are ambitious and a good problem solver than go for it. Otherwise I would just say it's not worth the effort.

well guys you are all right. I let the initial cost of the kit blind me...its too much of a gamble, and after all the parts are bought i'd be past the price of a used paxton kit, and i'd have a mediocre TT setup on my car. I'm just going to do it right and pass on this

thanks for all the help guys, i'm real glad you all got me thinking straight.
