Timing of First Oil Change on 10 month old \"New\" Car

The '02 GTS that I am expecting to be shipped next week was built in Feb '02. It only has 27 miles. Should I change the oil immediately due to age of oil or should I try to get certain mileage on it first? My quick search on "first oil changes" only seemed to focus on desired mileage rather than age of oil.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I doubt seriously you'd hurt the car waiting until 3000 miles to change the oil. It all depends on how anal you want to be. Since it's not a bad idea to change the oil at the first 200 miles, you might consider putting another 180 miles on it and then changing the oil.

Hopefully you're following the recommended break-in procedure for the first 1000 miles: keep RPM below 2500 for first 200 miles, under 3500 for next 200 miles, under 4000 for next 200 miles, under 4500 for next 200 miles. If you're not following that procedure, it doesn't make much sense to change the oil because the oil's been in there 8 months; you might as well wait until 3000 miles. Regardless, some oil consumption is possible in the first 1000 miles, so be sure to check the level every time you fill up in those first 1000 miles.

I change the oil a soon as possible on a new motor, then at 500 miles then every 3000 or 12 months which ever comes first.

I would drive on the same oil as long as the engine has been run regularly or atleast once a week or something. If it has been sitting for longer than 6 weeks with circulating, I would change it just for peace of mind knowing that new oil is circulating in my engine.

As Ron put it, depends on how anal you are, I don't think that it would make much of a difference either way.

It probably wouldn't make much difference, considering the crude is likely a billion years old already

Just change it...cheap peace of mind...

THEN FOLLOW THE PROPER BREAK IN PROCEDURE!

200 miles keep under 2,500 rpms

Change oil (Mobile 1...it's on your fill cap)

400 miles keep under 3,500 rpms
600 miles keep under 4,000 rpms
800 miles keep under 4,500 rpms
1000 miles keep under 5,000 rpms

Change oil (Mobile 1...it's on your fill cap)

First 1000 miles sux, but then you're ready to rock...I recommend a road trip...I drove from Minneapolis to Houston, broke in within two days...
