Just got some results from the Standing mile in Nebraska. I know it was already posted that Vipers took 1, 2, 3!!
If you can imagine how confident the Vette guys were before this race you would appreciate those results even more! :p
As expected SVSi took 1st with their very well known 1400+hp? Patriot TT land speed car! Just over 200mph!
Paolo C. took 2nd with his 845rwhp Heffner Blown GTS at just under 192mph. Fastest S/C'd Viper! (Gotta love that!! ;) I am a little biased here!)
West Coast Vipers took 3rd at 190mph also. I believe they had 600hp + a large shot of Spray!
Others, mostly stock Vipers were running in the high 150mph range.
My reports have stated that all the cars could have been a little faster, but the track has a slight incline, which would make a difference in MPH in a Mile run.
I am anxious to hear more about all the cars. Mods, fuel, tires, etc! Anyone else have some info.?
Also, would like to hear the times it took for the Vipers. Fast, real fast!

Congrats again to all the Vipers!! :usa:

Details, details, what tires did they run? Why do these mphs seem low for the hp we are are talking about??? I cant believe a SC viper with 850rwhp only got 192mph  What does the Viper in stock form do in the standing mile, anyone know? :p

The track wasn't perfectly flat and did have a slight **** in it. Also the elevation is about 2500 ft

Heh, keep in mind this is in my beloved state of Kneebrasky, and the standing start included on this lightly traveled piece of tarmac was:
1. The Tumbleweed transition ( weaving between tumbleweeds at 150 mph ).
2. The Prairie Dog Pylons -( slaloming around them cute little upright critters at 125mph ).
3. The rattlesnake rumble strip - flaying over the ribbon of reptiledom at 165mph.

So 190+ is beyond impressive and we don't be doing no normal standin mile start out here inda West!

Stock Vipers all ran in the 150mph range at this even. So there is a 40mph difference in what Paolo's car did versus the stock ones at this event. Another track, maybe better MPH for all! But 190 MPH is FAST!!
I believe Paolo was running Pilot Sport tires. Not sure if he was running 93 octane, as Nebraska might not have anything higher than 91!
I'll try to get more info later today!
Any more info?

Dunno, but in a 1/4 a stock viper should hit lets say an even 120 and a 850rwhp viper be about 145 mph???? That's 25 mph in JUST the 1/4..... anyways, congrats to all and way to represent!

Many stations in Nebraska have 92 octane ( virtually all Amoco/BP stations and some Shell ), plus there are plenty of outlets in the Omaha area for higher octane pump unleaded ----up to 100. I imagine everyone was able to obtain at least 92 octane fuel.

I haven't gotten any more info. But a highly modded ZR-1 won last year, and there was supposed to be a TT ZO6 there that was going to put "The Vipers" in there place!
I know a couple Vette owners out in Nebraska owe Paolo some drinks!! :p
Sounds like Vettes were the Kings of the Hill last year! Well, we all know who are the Kings of the Hill this year!! :D
Actually one of the organizers that I spoke with, was a Vette owner and he is a very nice guy! If I remember his first couple reactions were, "sure bring your Vipers out, our Vettes will be hard to beat, and Viper owners always think their cars are faster than they really are". But once he heard what was coming out there, he was more excited on seeing what the Modded Vipers would do in the mile! :usa:

Thanks for the news! It would be great to see how the Corvettes and other cars did.

I am trying to find out if any SRT's ran yesterday. But I think someone else already mentioned that a stock GTS usually runs around the same(I have heard 173) as the numbers in the Motor Trend above. I believe Paolo had hit that in his, but at a different track.

You're right...In the 98-00 MT shootouts stock GTS did 171-173mph if I remember correctly....It was deffinately in the 170's..Vettes are behind by almost 10mph...

SVSi website mentions a 1700hp twin turbo coming soon . . !
Quote: "Coming soon the unvailing of the Stryker TT RS (Twin Turbo Rocket Sled) 1700 Hp Twin Turbo V-10. In the pursuit of making the Dodge Viper the Fastest Production Vehicle on the Planet!"
Click here and scan down the page a bit

..speaking of Vettes, friend at GM's Milford Proving Grounds (I used to work there) says 500hp 2005 Z06 Vettes are expected there for testing

Adding 60mph over 3/4 of a mile from 140mph at 1/4 mile takes a lot of power guys! Think how much ground is being covered every second from 140mph!

The Blue Thunder Charger I have been involved with ran a best of 177mph at half track - then only added 35mph for the second half to cross at 212mph in 1/4 mile. That baby weighs less than the Viper and has well over 2500hp! It is not that the car runs out of acceleration - it simply is covering teh ground so fast it takes a long distance to add significant speed. The time taken would be more indicative of how quick those Vipers were still accelerating than the distance.

REDGTS also added a good argument to this in the other thread in Perf.Mods forum re time/distance.

i wish they had a 1 mile race here in arizona at the old abandoned airstrip in chandler, arizona. this is where the air force used to fly out of until luke airforce base moved to the other side of town. the runway is 2 miles long and the elevation is like 1,100 ft above sea level. it would be perfect for a event out here in the southwest. if there ever is a event like this out here in the southwest i am going to put a nitrous kit on my viper and bust 200 mph.

Mike, the top three Vipers ran the stock pilots. SVS ran MXX3's, Myself and the West coast Vipers ran the Pilot Sport tires.

I will put the whole thing into perspective for you..... Here goes:

1. Stock Vipers have run as fast as 173.3 MPH in the magazine. They usually run around 167 to 169 MPH in the standing 1 mile. The fastest stock Viper in Nebraska ran 157 MPH in the mile. The reason being is that at about 1/2 track, the rest of the mile is a slight incline.

2. The SVS Viper with the new 1700 HP motor ran "only" 200 MPH. I say "only" not in a negative way at all, but just to illustrate a point. ==> For that altitude and incline that is what the 246 MPH salt flat land speed record car did in the mile.... This is what makes me happy to run 191.8 MPH running only 9 PSI. It is all relative.

Casey, I started the event with a whopping 1/3 of a tank of gas. I did not know Nebraska had only 90 octane near the event site. It did not occur to me to fill up with 93 when I had the chance and I did not have time to get race gas!

As far as 191.8 MPH being fast, you are correct especially when you consider that the 246 MPH salt flat SVS TT Viper ran only 8.2 MPH faster than my Heffner supercharged Viper on only 9 PSI.
