You OPINIONS are needed. Here is the question: If given the chance to select the exterior color, interior color, ACR option, decals, stripe option and color, what do YOU feel would make the best design for the Viper GTS that will go into the museum?

Example: I would like a Super White/no stripe/ACR wheels/5-point belts/red and black interior/with no badging/and a commemorative dash plaque.

As I walk into the museum, the first 2 cars I would like to see is the Gen 1 RT/10(Red), then a 96 GTS, Blue/white, then a Gen 2 RT/10 (Silver). All cars must be stock, since this is for history sake.

I need you to be creative. If you could put this whole project together, to make a very special GTS, what would you do to get your heart racing? Think like a designer first, one putting his own design on display.

Here is another example I got on the phone: Some of you may have seen this on the Viper TV series? In the second season they had an all Blue no stripe GTS. That and white are the only GTS's never available without stripes. So make a solid Blue GTS, put in the blue and back GT2 interior, maybe BBS wheels, and the hood scoop that AutoForm makes.

The objective is to MAKE the GTS of YOUR dreams.

GTS of my dreams would have a carbon fiber body and you would see the carbon fiber weaver on the outside of the body.

First of all.....Jer...if the SRT looked like YOUR version of the convertible- I'd be buying FOR SURE!!!
And Steve....I think the first stock version of all the cars is what should go in the museum...
92 RT10, 96 GTS, 2003 SRT.....if you wanted to...then throw in an ACR..... GTS-R......Comp Coupe.....all in their first years' released version.

To ALL: They already have "stock" versions. Can you come up with a "special one" is the question? This is your chance to maybe see YOUR designed Viper GTS in the Chrysler museum! Take a stab, create the "greatest" combination or "what if" Viper GTS known, and have it live on forever.

If I was going to do my dream GTS, I would paint it white (not pearl, every older car with pearl that gets chips in the paint looks worse than any other colour) with metallic green stripes. It would have the GT2 wing with the ground effects and dive planes painted the metallic green. The tail lamps would be blacked out and say "VIPER" when the brakes were used. The headlights would be the xenon ones that were green in hue. Latly for the wheels, I'd go with the classy BBS LM's and do them in a metallic green powdercoat. All topped off with green Viper emblem and badging and a backlit indiglo type "Viper ACR" window decal on the top of the window. The interior would of course be a combination of white, black and green (not too much green though). Also I would do the intake manifold and valve colours and powdercoat them green as well.

Why green? It's a colour you rarely see on a viper, and I love the white with green stripe GTS that someone on here has in their avatar.

What does everyone think?

If that fails do each body panel in all different colours that vipers came in, kinda like that golf that VW did, kind of like a "tribute car".

Craig
P.S. you could really switch the green for any colour in metallic, red, blue etc... I just think metallic stripes with powdercoated wheels would look sweet, it's how I plan on doing my GTS....... SOMEDAY!

With my penchant for 'patriotic' colors in mind,
I could see an original Viper Red with navy stripes and white stars on the blue stripe field. A white stripe between
the blue stripes to finish. Blue 'Viper' side and back logos,
with white 'GTS'.

Looks like people are getting involved in this thread so let me put up a couple of suggestions. If I could design the ultimate collectable Viper what would it be?

Scheme 1 includes; Red GTS with white stripes, GT-2 rear wing, "Dodge" decals in white on the rear 1/4 panels, "Dodge" windshield banner, ACR wheels, GTS-R decal on each side of hood, Red and black two tone interior, racing belts, commemorative dash plaque on console stating that this is a tribute to the GTS-R Vipers that won every championship in sportscar racing in 98,99 and 2000. To finish it off a large decal inside of the rear glass with a laurel and the championships listed from 98,99 and 2000. I think this is one better than the GT-2 and the stillborn Daytone special.

Scheme 2 includes; 96 Viper Blue GTS with or without white stripes, all exterior trim/logos in the silver/chrome look of 98/99, polished ACR wheels, black/blue GT-2 interior, special dash plaque saying this is the last of the original Vipers, racing belts, polished alum pedals and trim found on the 2000-2002 cars, VCA windshield banner.

Scheme 3 includes; The white car that Steve Ferguson created but with the specific items of Scheme 2 above (I want the credit for it though because if my design got picked, than I would hope John F would give me something for the effort).

Where do I get in line to buy one of these? Who agrees with me?

If you are going to represent the GTS, I think it should be stock blue w/ white stripes and black interior ala 1996. The car should be sitting on original MXX3 tires as well. No "fufu" or non stock items. This is the definitive GTS and would be a true representation of a classic and historically correct. Boring? Look at where this ride has taken us to date!

I'd have to agree with a couple of people in here, that the 96 blue with white stripes and stock wheels is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever set eyes on, and it comes first to my mind when I think of an historical representation of the Viper.

However, I understand this is not supposed to be stock, since the stock versions are already well represented.

So if try to think of the ultimate custom ride, the first thing that crosses my mind is Sir Hiss, 'cause its so OVER THE TOP!

Sir Hiss is a Viper on steroids, and it is all about intimidation, agressiveness, winning, and all those other nasty but useful qualities that Viper stands for, at least in the performance aspect.

A first-class no-holds-barred attempt at the ultimate championship of automotive "CAR-ma" Look out, here it comes, the ultimate Viper, better stand back, it may bite you. Get away from there, little kids, its dangerous! Rope it off in the museum to prevent potential injury to observers.

For a special one-off car I'd paint the GTS Deep Candy Red (used on the last of the Prowlers). With bright silver stripes. ACR wheels, red 5 point belts, and a GT2 wing.

I like this version, except change interior to red/white or black/white to more match exterior. Also, sew GTS-R into each seat back.

How about...

'96 Viper Blue exterior
'98 silver stripes
ACR package (w/BBS wheels, but chromed)
Blue/black interior (a-la GT2 but no white)
5-point belts

O.k. I'll bite. If I HAVE to pick a "modified" version instead of a bone stock one, why not include the "best" offerings from each year, including aftermarket parts. Kind of like, "Here's a representation of the GTS from each year put into one vehicle" I'm NOT a expert on the viper to say the least but I'm sure everyone could put together what the "best" offerings were for each year. Since I would pick a GTS, start with 1996.

1) 1996: Blue with white stripe paint job.
2) 1997: ?
3) 1998: GT2 badging and parts.
4) 1999: ?
5) 2000: Twin turbo, Daytona wing
6) 2001: ABS
7) 2002: New interior color

You get the picture........

"Significant History" candidate:

Why don't we just put in the red one that Carrol Shelby drove to pace the 1991 Indy 500? Shelby had a heart transplant only months before. It paced "Rocket" Rick Mears' 4th (and last) win and it was one of the few cars on track that day that didn't hit the wall. It was also one of only a handfull of Vipers that ever came from the factory on Goodyear tires.

Works for me...

Try this...

Somewhat similar to Steveb, where he suggested a representation of the GTS from each year put into one vehicle, BUT take it a few steps further.

First, have the GTS include some significant, yet orginal part from each model year (96-02). What part would you use for from each year?

Second, since Viper racing has been special over the years, the GTS should ALSO include an orginal part from 98, 99, and 00 championship cars! What part would you use from each championship car?

A car with lots of history and lots to talk about!

Oh, I like a white cars too. Racing stripes!

I would like to see it have:

1) The twin parallel exposed side pipes and CATS like the original GTS concept sketches

2) A flush aircraft style fuel filler lid (like that fellow did to his GTS in the last issue of VM, 'cept original, not off a TT).

3) 19" Rims in the original '96 GTS style.

4) Rear window louvres (no idea what this would look like, but I loved them on the Boss Mustangs
smile.gif
)

5) Oval louvers in the hood instead of the square ones.... This would match the hoods "speaker grills" much better.

6) color - Some sort of wild Silver/Pewter presto chango color. one that had a range of colors going from bright silver to deep pewter, maybe even charcoal gray. A color that shows off the GTS's wonderful curves.... one that would really "highlight the curves".

7)Stripes, in a color that was "opposite" of the body color.

8) Black GTS and Viper hood side and rear badging. Charcoal grey hood emblem.

9) The Autoform "Daytona" front fascia.

I hate to ask a really stupid question, but...is there a real museum that we're talking about here? If so, has it been built? If not, what is the schedule?

Obviously I am biased towards blue/white GTS, and the only change I would make is put the current wheels on it.
