So whats up with some specific words being underlined in green, when we type the words in our posts?

When you click on them, they take you to some advertisement website.

So whats up with that ?? VCA making a few bucks? This mean dues will come down?

What gives ??

Jon

PS. Personally I think they are a distraction, and break continuity, but if they provide some monitary value for the club, I guess I'll just deal with it.

They wouldn't be so bad if they weren't helping to advertise competitor's products. For example, in another thread I saw GM (as in the abbreviation for General Manager) turn into an ad for General Motors. In another thread a keyword turned into an ad for the Toyota Echo.

Please keep the feedback coming.

This is a test of a potential new service/revenue generator (yes, proceeds to be utilized for VCA members of course!)

So far, NOT that promising. I've noticed illogical links "Find deals on SEMA and other household items....", and of course, competitive ads.

Unless it's fixed quickly, you'll see it disappear.

Please keep your feedback coming!

Right, What F355 said...If it's making the VCA some good $$$, I'll deal with it, if not, get it the heck outta here...
I thought I had some "virus" thing on my computer or something...

Please get rid of it. It is making it hard to read through a post without getting distracted. Definately *****. There's much better ways to display advertisements, and not by hijacking someone else's words to do that. Is the VCA really that hard up for $$? Or is someone just greedy?

Definately *****.....get rid of it.

You girls really need to find other hobbies if you think this is a big issue. How about..DON"T click on the hyperlinks then. If it makes some money for the VCA who gives a [******]. Like it's really too distracting to read a post..good lord.

Jay & Joe,
You told me my signature looked to much like advertising so YOU trimmed it down and the link to my web site is still NOT working and then you went ahead and installed advertising all over our posts!

GET RID OF IT, I DON'T LIKE IT!! :curse: :evilmad:

Right, not at all distracting. How about when you are moving the mouse across the screeen, or its sitting unexpectedly over one of the SPECIAL green words, a mini pop-up occurs, making it impossible to read the post, unless you move the mouse...

Yeah, my Bad... Glad you dont have the time to comment about it either... oh wait a minute.. you just did.. welcome to the group !! :D

I could live with it if the revenue (if any) goes to a faster web site :) If it slows it down more (which it potentially can) it would be a tragedy. I never use this type of linking anyway but I don't like it.

If I was a sponsor of a forum on this site and had links
installed that took posters to non supporting competing shops I would
not be happy.Look at Tire Rack's Tire,Wheel,Brake and suspension
not the way to support your partners!

I would be curious to know if the VCA gets money if a user mouses over the link, if they click through or both. If the arrangement requires people to click through I doubt that this will be profitable because I don't see anyone on this site actually clicking through.

Many people do however read online by using the mouse to follow along the text as they read. The links are most likely to pop-up for these people because as they get to a green word subconsiously with the mouse the ad opens up -- These are also the people that will be distracted by the links.

So if the VCA gets a small amount of money for every time an ad displays then this could possibly bring in some money but I wonder how much.

Exactly!

Wheels and tires doesn't get you to the Tire Rack (a sponsor), but rather Tires.com...and they don't even sell Pilots?!

Click on one of the links then click on"what's this"

Next is this slowing the VCA website down more than
normal?

Not a fan at all. Advertising is one thing, but this is overboard. No pun intended.
