I talked to my dealer a couple days ago, and was told that the 3 year 36K miles nbumper to bumper and the 7 year 100K powertrain are NOT transferable, is this true? they also told me that the extended warranty which makes it a 7 year/ 100K miles bumper to bumper IS transferable, but it MUST be bought at the time of purchase, is this also true? and to the tune of 2500$? I was under the impression that the warranty could be bought at any time durring the original warranty period...? Is it possible to buy the same warranty from another dealer such as Woodhouse, Tators dodge, etc?

I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, but I and many others just bought the 7/year, 50K warranty from a guy out east. He was giving us a great deal--1350 in my case.

I'm sure you can still call him. Thanks to smokinV10 for setting this up!!!

This deal is generalized, so you will have to call Mike Robbins at Ringgold Chrysler Dodge Jeep for more details (he needs your VIN etc)

His number is

877-755-1751

All Plans Quoted Below are for a $100 deductible.

For Newer cars still under the 3/36:

Damlier Chrysler MaxCare 7 Year/50,000 Mile Plan:
$1175.00!!!
Add $100 of your car is over 1 year old
Add $200 if your car is over 2 years old

For older cars the following deal was extended:

the 3/36 100 ded added care is 1850.00
the 4/48 100 ded added care is 2250.00
Please call Mike with your year make and model for possible surcharges.

I just set up a group buy for a extended warranty. You can get the max care extended warranty at any time after the purchase up to the end of the factory warranty. After that you can do the added care plans. I wouldnt buy anything from a dealer who tried to mislead me like that. Do a search for warranty group buy. I think you will find that the prices I got for VCA members is better as well.

The 3 year 36k is transferable unlimited times. It goes with the car.

The extended warranty is transferable one time for a fee fo $50.

You can purchase the warranty at ANY time. But there is a penalty of $100 per year after the initial purchase.

$2500 May actually be a little low if you want the 100k mile zero deductible.

I can tell that you went to the right place...since they gave you the WRONG information. 90% of Dodge dealers are IDIOTS!

Under most conditions, the 3/36 new vehicle warranty stays with the car. Therefore it is not "transferable". It is valid until the car reaches the mileage or time limit from the "original in-service date" without regard to the number of owners.

The Chrysler service contracts for new vehicles can be purchased anytime prior to the expiration of the 3/36 new vehicle warranty and they can be transferred "once". After that, they are no longer transferable and expire when the owner sells the car to someone else.

See your favorite D/C dealer for details and prices and if you don't like what you are hearing, shop around. Just keep in mind that it is better for relations between you and your dealer if you purchase from the store you plan to get your repairs from. It makes life a bit more pleasant and relaxed for all involved. However, a Chrysler warranty and/or service contract can and should be honored at any factory authorized dealer.

For those of you who have bought (or are about to buy) an extended warranty for a Viper that is out of the original 3 year DC warranty, please be careful. I keep hearing stories about people with '94 and later Vipers who are purchasing extended DC warranties. I do not mean to rain on the parade but I have serious doubts about the validity of a warranty on a car that is, in some cases, already eight years old. Think about it. If a car was built in 1994 and a 7-year extended warranty is purchased, that would mean that Chrysler is insuring a car until it is 15 years old. Does'nt that sound a little to good to be true? One of the reasons that I sold my '94 RT/10 was that it was out of warranty. I even went so far as to attempt to purchase a DC warranty from Fitzgerald Dodge. However, after speaking with several reputible dealers I was told that these warranties are not always valid. Just be careful please.

RFC,

I was told by ALL the local dealers that I could not purchase the extended warranty on my 98 GTS because it was out of warranty.

So I called DC and they said "No problem". I bought the 50k mile with Zero deductable and it was $2500. The 100k mile would have been 5 grand. I only have 6k miles on my car, I don't see hitting 100k miles anytime soon.

Here is the deal, as Garolittle is pointing out. My warranty is not 7 years from TODAY, it is 7 years from the "In Service Date". So my 98 is covered until 2005.

No inspection is required. Just a credit card over the phone.

Just to add to any confusion there might be, Dodge has been running a promotion recently (see their website) of a powertrain-only 7 year 100,000 mile free warranty to new car buyers thru May 31st. It is NOT as extensive as an extended warranty as it is powertrain only. It is subject to a $100 deductible and is not transferable. But is a great freebie for anyone pondering a purchase very soon.

what are my best options then? please keep in mind that this car will need to be transfered ONCE durring my ownership of it. i would like an extended warranty...but should I get it now, or after its closer to the end of the initial warranty...

Now, am I correct in assuming the following: If I purchase the car, it has a 3/36 bumper to bumper, and a 7/100 powertrain. can I transfer the 3/36 with no problem, and then since I lose the 7/100 powertrain, can I buy an extended warranty like mentioned above to basically make up what I lost? (I would get the 7/50 or 7/75 MaxCare) or would I be better off buying the extended warranty NOW for 2500?

Believe extended warranty cost goes up after vehicle is a certain age (more info on Dodge website including a link to their extended warranties and a toll free phone number). If you live in snowy area/won't drive it year round, don't pay for too many miles on the warranty. Also keep in mind that 7 yr/100k powertrain offer is due to expire on May 31st.

Thanks, Toddt & smokinV10! I just purchased the 7yr/50,000/$0 deduct. max care warranty for $1350 from Mike Robbins at Ringgold Chrysler Dodge Jeep.

I now have $400 left from when I cancelled (from somewhere else)my original 4yr/50,000/$50 deduct. after finding out it didn't add "4" extra years, only "1".
(My car was considered "new" as it just sat at the dealer for a couple of years before I bought it)

Dainiel,

1.) The 3yr/36,000 mile factory warranty is transferable to the new buyer of your car since it "stays with the car"

2.) The Dodge 7 yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty promo has been extended through July 8th. You have this on your car. This is NOT transferable to a 2nd owner. Subject to a $100 deductible, it would only be useful to YOU, the original owner after the full 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty expires and it applies to the powertrain components only. See: www.dodge.com and click Viper or any other car and you'll see a small icon with the 7 yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty which you can click on for all the fine print. Again, it's a great freebie but is NOT TRANSFERABLE.

3.) Chrysler Extended Warranty: Go here: www.servicecontracts.chrysler.com These typically are just SLIGHTLY cheaper if bought very early in the vehicle's life (compared to buying it in year two or three). They are transferable ONE TIME only and they have a small transfer fee in most states.

IN ADDITION, I have been told by dealers that those of us who have bought new Vipers recently enough to have the free 7 yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty should be able to get a LOWER price on the Chrysler extended warranty service contracts since we've already got the powertrain covered. I haven't gone shopping for this so I haven't verified the accuracy of this but it makes some sense to me. Interesting to note that even though a number of Viper owners arranged for group buys of the Chrysler service contract early this year at a favorable price, Viper owners with the 7yr/100,000 mile powertrain warranty should be able to do even better.

Also, for those who live in Florida (and states with similar laws), make sure to shop around for the Chrysler service contract OUTSIDE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA. Why you ask? Because in Florida, these service contracts MUST be sold at "MSRP" supposedly because the state fears dealers might mark them up! No one in Florida though about how this moronic MSRP requirement prohibits discounting too!

The 3/36 is transferrable and there is no problem. The 7/100 Powertrain is not transferrable, as it is a promotion. You can purchase a 7/60 , $100 Ded., Maxcare, while the Free Powertrain program is on, for a reduced price. You can still do it, so don't feel threatened that it had to be done at the sale. Once the promotion is over, then you probably won't be able to get the "add on " discounted Maxcare, as it is tied into said program.

Sincerely,
Bill Pemberton
Woodhouse Chrysler

PS - You can actually do other than 7/60, but this is the most common - why pay for 100,000 miles if you will only use 20,000 , for example.
