Why wouldn\'t.....

... a 1999 RT/10.. with 26,000 miles be worth at least $39,000? I believe a clear title (although I do not have access to Carfax)..... excellent condition Cognac interior w/black exterior?

I am considering the purchase... have not inspected because it is near Nashville TN... but why would it not be worth at least $39K??

Am I an idiot for not jumping on it immediately.. I feel wary...as I found it on e-Bay.

That seems kind of low to me (I would think it would go for a bit more linke in the low 40s). But it is winter and maybe the seller is motivated. I would get the car checked out but that sounds like it COULD be a good deal providing that everything checks out.

I agree!

There is a 2002 red RT/10 here in Columbia at a local dealership that has 17,000 miles on it. They are asking $49K. A family member of mine, who owns a Viper, stopped and looked at it. They salesman said they are asking $49K but they need to get rid of it. They seemed as though they were willing to negotiate a lot. I think someone could lowball them (low $40's) and get it. If your interested let me know.

Re: Why wouldn\'t.....

Prices have fallen, I saw another 99 RT go for $32K, but it did have higher mileage. Remember, asking price is not selling price. You could probably get it for $36-$37K, but make sure to look at eh car in person and put it on a rack to check everything from under neither(frame)!

I guess the upside to this price instability is that it takes even the slightest thought of ever parting with this vehicle out of play. With the prices where they are now especially when you factor in what is considered high mileage in Viper speak, it seems these vehicles are practically being given away when compared to vehicles comparable in price.

If that's your color prefereence I think I like this one better, 5700mi, unless you HAVE to have forged pistons. Although this one is in Florida, home of the washed title factory. I think the one you are looking at is low due to the mileage, the Cognac, and the winter selling season, most guys don't like the cognac.

Price seems low, but given the mileage the car could actually be in rough shape. I have seen many cars that look great in pictures and then when you see them in person, you would swear you are not looking at the same car. The other factor is what maintenance has been done the car and/or what needs it may have.

I bought my viper from these guys at encore. While I got what I thought was a good deal, I wasn't really too happy with the dealership. They didn't even vacuum behind the seats at all, and the car was 1 quart low on oil when I picked it up and needed changed anyway.

I was just so caught up in the excitement of getting a viper that I let better judgement get me and would have picked a different viper in hindsight. sorry if I highjacked the thread.

There's a red 97 or 98 GTS here in Oregon at a reputable Dodge dealer (Timberline Dodge) with 1400 miles for 48k if you are interested.

That seems low to me. That or the prices of the Viper is falling drastically. I bought the SAME care as your thinking about buying less then 2 years ago with 22000 miles for 42k and then it was a great deal.
What the heck is going on?

Re: Why wouldn\'t.....

I don't know if it is too low or just another good deal. If the tires are worn remember that will cost you another $1,600 or so to replace them.

I bought my '99 black/cognac RT last July for $42.5k and included a hard and soft top plus a Viper car cover and Corsa cat-back exhaust. The car was in pristine condition. It had 16,072 miles at the time. Prices are probably a bit lower in the offseason or the seller just doesn't want to haggle around with the price.

A buddy of mine just bought a new leftover '05 SRT vert for $60k, so prices are falling.

It's at Hampton Pontiac Jaguar on Fernandina road on this side of town. I haven't stopped to see it but it is sitting out by the side of the road :bonker: . They really know how to care for a Viper :smirk:

Put the Jags and Potiacs outside in the snow and put that Viper on the showroom floor where it belongs. :buttkick: I can't believe they let a Viper sit outside in the snow... :nono: :curse: :evilmad: :bonker: IDIOTS!

Re: Why wouldn\'t.....

Seen 98's and 99's going in the low 30's if they have 20k+ miles on them. Seen a few locally do that. Red seems to command the least $$.

It would be nice if a 99 RT/10 with, say, 18k (like mine) were worth more... but the market in the winter time is soft AND prices have dropped dramatically.

Besides... a 99 is a 7-8 year old car. you don't think that 50% depreciation is reasonable for 7 years? :p

of course i don't want them to depreciate like this... but they do!

my .02...

Re: Why wouldn\'t.....

They are not going to put 100k Jags out in the snow.

My mom drives her Jag in the snow but I would never drive my Viper in the snow. :nono: Jag is just another everyday driver like a vette, nice cars but nothing special like a Viper. :D
