    Stock exhaust setup... why?

I've experienced "drone" on some motorcycle/exhaust combinations and I can vouch that it is a headache producer. Seems to be related to a resonance occuring at certain engine RPM ranges. So thank you all that have gone down a path at much $expense$ and shared your experiences with the rest of...

    bell ringing in top latch

Are you sure it's the latch? Mine had some noises at the small round posts that engage the windshield header. I wrapped the posts with self-adhesive black Velcro 3/4" strips (the fuzzy side, not the hook side). That fixed the clicking noise. All the contact points along the header should be...

    Stock exhaust setup... why?

All cats get hot-- very hot; it's part of the catalytic process. While some of the high-flow cats sold for the Viper throw off less heat than a stocker, they also increase the sound level (which you may or may not want). On longer drives, the heat from any cat will start coming through the...

Clacking Sound When Abruptly Unloading Drive Train

My Gen III makes a light clack sound when the drive line load is suddenly released (abruptly step off the gas while cruising, for instance). There's no slop in the u-joints and the rear end is new, so I'm thinking it might be something related to the engine torque reaction (engine and trans...

    Differential Lube

The DC Performance page on service guidelines for your Viper is worth a look: http://www.dcperformanceinc.com/Nav.aspx/Page=%2fPageManager%2fDefault.aspx%2fPageID%3d330983

    Clear bra correction or SOL?

I would think you could improve it with one of the many clear plastic polishes out there. Motorcycle guys eat this stuff up for their clear plastic windscreens. Some just spray on and wipe off, like Plexus. Others are a true polish like Meguiars Plast-X. In any case, I would test the product...

Bad news for the wallet... and my begging knees...

Nitrous injection was the cheapo fix for this on my old Z28. Fun, but I wouldn't do it on a Viper. Maybe switch to a twin-turbo or Paxton Gen III? It is amazing how many Vipers have been boosted, relative to the small number of cars sold. I guess if you're the type of guy that can't get...

    Engine light glowing!

Oxygen sensors are one of the least reliable parts on a car... yet they keep adding more of them. I guess it makes sense that anything hanging in the exhaust stream would be somewhat subject to failing, but jeez.... The ironic part is that the O2 sensors after the cats just monitor the health...

    Those with rebuilding experience, please.

Not to be a downer, but I went this route before (non-Viper sport car) and even after getting the car cosmetically perfect the other defects related to the crash kept popping up. I'm sure this is why salvaged title cars have such reduced value, but for me, it took a lot of the fun out of owning...

    03 Viper DIY oil change?

Add to that list the correct size oil filter wrench/tool. Ever drain the oil on a new vehicle and then find out that none of your existing filter wrenches fit the cannister?

    TPMS on 2010 ACR

Am I the only one that hates these things (TPMs)?? Battery in device goes dead in the middle of a tire's life... what am I supposed to do, unmount and re-balance the tire (on a $$$ wheel that is easily marred by a tire machine) just to get the stoopid idiot light to turn off? Of course, you...

    03 Viper DIY oil change?

Oil viscosity recommendations have a lot to do with the intended ambient operating temperature. If the mfgr. is trying to recommend one oil viscosity range for all seasons for all of the US it will have to cover starting the car in sub-zero weather. Personally, I have no use for cold weather...

Post your pics of your Viper if you have deep dish rims....

Not just the brakes... "deeper dish" moves more of the rim to the outside. The mounting point on the hub is a fixed reference. Moving the rim too far outward will not only cause impacts with the fender but look pretty silly as well. In the old-school muscle cars you could narrow the rear...

Red arrow .... Tell the Truth, no fibbing!

If you are looking for better mileage I would continue doing what you are doing (shift around 2000 rpm). The Viper V10 has a lot in common with truck motors and is designed for low RPM torque, so you aren't really "lugging it". Small displacement engines need to be rev'd, not so the Viper (see...

    Wiper Blade Viper Tax

$31.17 each for OEM blades at the MOPAR Online Parts(.com) store. Still, compared to most other car's wiper blades, more than double the price. Maybe this is why so many of us never drive their Vipers in the rain :crazy2: .

How Much Time to Change Serpentine Belt?

Yeah, Roe Racing is a good company and I recently bought some aftermarket intake parts from them. Thumbs up to the few outfits catering to the relatively small Viper market... we luv ya guys! It's tough to be in a any kind of "toy store" business when money gets tight... my local Ducati dealer...

How Much Time to Change Serpentine Belt?

Not to take anything away from the dedicated sponsors and active contributors to the forum, but a site called MoparPartsOnline has the tensioner for only $57. What I've been finding the last few years is local stealerships (any brand) are marking parts up 15-25% OVER MSRP, and meanwhile, the...

How Much Time to Change Serpentine Belt?

I can never make any sense of parts prices... a pulley is $14.00 and a fuel filter is $112.00! My old standard guess-timate of taking whatever you think it is worth and multiply X2 doesn't hold up any more. Hemihead, it may only take me five minutes to change the belt, but then there's the...

How Much Time to Change Serpentine Belt?

Time to change my serpentine drive belt on the '05... part is on the way. Looks easy in the service manual. Anyone done this and have any tips/ things to watch out for? -Dave (aka Sonoman) :drive:

Question: RB4 Nav Unit in a RB1 Equipped SRT 10?

Does anyone make a carbon fiber ( or black) bezel that is pre-cut for the taller, narrower double-DIN units (as shown in Lee's green installation above)? I know I've seen one on this forum but it might be a custom job...

A few towing & tie down questions

Well, for track days with my motorcycles or shifter kart I do the four straps PLUS secure the rear wheel(s) to the trailer to prevent any "bunny hopping". Hmmm, this could work for cars as well, if the trailer had suitable provisions. Getting a wide stance with the straps where they connect to...

Question: RB4 Nav Unit in a RB1 Equipped SRT 10?

Might check out this thread on the Dodge forum. Looks like the nav function in the RB4 is pretty basic: <Quote> "If you can swing the extra $100-$200 you will much happier with an RB1 versus the RB4. The RB1 shows the actual map where the RB4 only shows the turn by turn arrow. The only upside...

Question: RB4 Nav Unit in a RB1 Equipped SRT 10?

Some confusing and contradictory info on the RB1 in this thread. The RB1 NAV radio is a single disc unit with the capability of connecting to an outboard 6-disc player. The original equipment Viper radio for Gen III is an RBK and is the 6-disc/No-Nav unit we've all come to know and uh, tolerate.
