Thanks guys-- I checked my tires and they do have the "C1" on them. Whew!, I was feeling a bit "pedestrian" for a while. Then I got run over in a crosswalk by a 345/35ZR-19 Viper-spec. All is good, despite the treadmarks.
Quote from the SRT Engineers yesterday:
"As you have learned with the Viper specific PS2 versus the regular PS2, just because two tires have the same model name and tread pattern, they are not necessarily the same. A non-Viper spec PS2 is a much more pedestrian supercar tire than the Viper...
I knew a guy who had some clunking issues in his (non-Viper) Hydra-Lok and added half a bottle (2 ounces) of friction modifier and it cured the problem. So you never know, and it is a cheap thing to try, but you may not want to use a whole bottle since you've already got a full dose in there...
Good point. The dealer was awfully quick to recommend complete replacement of expensive assemblies. Of course, if it was under warranty, they would say "all is normal" and "don't worry about it, they all do that"! ; -)
I suppose dollar signs light up in the eyes of some non-trustworthy...
The fact that it happens in sharp turns points strongly to the rear end, since sharp turns is where the differential action between the two wheels occurs (one turning slowly through a small radius and the outer turning more rapidly through a large radius). However, some clunking is normal for...
Very funny, Jon. But there's some truth to that (except for those of us who refuse to grow up!).
My take on the 2.5"-inlet Corsa on my '05 Copper head: It's about "right", and sounds fantastic at highr RPM's and/or large throttle openings. This is with stock cats. It is definitely not a...
Surging is often an indicator of a lean condition, which could be brought on by a lack of fuel. However, given your recent mods, I would look at the intake side first and see if there are any air leaks due to loose hose clamps or loose vacuum hoses. Any intake air leaks beyond where the mass...
If you are re-installing the same ECU that was removed, the calibration for the throttle position sensor should still be saved in there and may be close enough to work correctly if the TPS hasn't drifted too much over time. You definitely need to do a cal with a brand new ECU, but with one that...
Speaking of interiors, has anyone had the center console opening lid re-covered in leather? I'm missing the feel of that from my previous sports cars. Grainy vinyl on a hot day ain't the greatest thing to rest a forearm on. I'm all for having options, one interior for the racers and one for...
The 2005/GenIII does have a limited slip, although it is a Hydra-Lok as opposed to the newer Visco-Lok. One of the "features" of the older Hydra-Lok is that the spinning wheel needs to rotate about 5 times before the clutches engage and lock-up the differential. This may tend to soften the hit...
I bought the MGW cup holder bezel and it is high quality. However, neither of the available finishes (Chrome or Pearl Bright) really match anything else in the Gen III interior. "Pearl Bright" is basically a flat, pewter-look silver paint or powder coat. If they really wanted to match the...
I'm curious, why did Chrysler go to all the trouble to drive the cooling fan via hydraulic fluid instead of the usual twin electric fans switched on and off by a thermostat? The hydraulic fan assembly seems more complex and heavy and expensive than the electric alternative. I was at a car show...
Simple Green will clean and degrease the wheel wells, but it will also leave them a dull off-black beige/grey color when it dries. IF you want 'em to look like they did when new, I'd give Mequiar's PlastX a try afterward. It leaves the surface shiny black with no residue of any kind left...
I checked the 2003 Service Manual and it only has instructions for programming a new transmitter using an existing transmitter to set-up the system into programming mode. Makes sense since they don't want anyone with a new key fob to steal your car! They do give instructions to re-synch a...
Once the alternator goes out, the voltage would typically drop steadily and not recover. It's a little odd that the voltmeter dropped suddenly. Would be good to put another handheld voltmeter right on the battery terminals (or the jump start terminals) when you see this problem-- make sure...
Yep, WD-40 is versatile stuff-- I use it to clean the gold chain on my Ducati and it does seem to attract less dirt than a normal chain lube. Any oil will cause fine dust to accumulate, though, compared to a dry surface. Sounds like it's working great for you, no doubt, so I'll keep an open...
Meguiar's Plast-X works great on the black fender tubs, if you don't mind a little shine. This fender tub material does oxidize and turn grey after a lot of exposure; I'm sure Dodge chose it mostly for it's resistance to fracturing rather than appearance. Popular cleaning products like Simple...
As far as the Autozone fluid, I guess it depends on how much you trust the brand. For instance, with Valvoline or Castrol on the ATF+4, they have been certified by Chrysler. For another brand that states they meet the specs but never bothered to get it officially certified, it may or may not...
The 2003 model used Power Steering Fluid as a factory fill (Mopar 04883077). 2004+ Vipers used ATF+4 as the factory fill, and it is a preferred fluid. I believe a 2003 can be fully purged of the
original fluid and converted to ATF+4, but do not mix the two together.
Also keep in mind the...
Just did a differential upgrade to my '05 as well. Stated oil capacity is 1.3 liters. Use 41 ounces of synthetic GL-5 gear lube (I used 75W-140, but Unitrax said some brands of 75w-90
are also fine), first adding 4 ounces of Mopar friction modifier (P/N 4318060AB) for a total of 45 ounces...
