Mixing Gas - F&L GoR Help!

Toulene is low volatility and will make the engine harder to start when cold. Cold as in cold engine and ambient temperature - I was at Lime Rock Park in CT once and a Viper would barely start and then stall. The owner had to keep his foot on the gas to keep it running and thought the idle air...

Mixing Gas - F&L GoR Help!

Nice to be missed. I have a real job again, so for those "important" questions, PM me. VCA forum PMs are forwarded to my email, so I'll get it right away. You will be pretty close using the average of the two fuels mixed. When you purchase 89 midgrade, it is a blend of the 87 and 91 (or...

Help! No 5th 6th or Reverse???

Look here for the T56 manual. http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/media/pdfs_autogen/T-56_Service_Manual.pdf Figure 3-8 shows part number 128, the countershaft extension. The teeth are at the lower end. There are two large magnets in the bottom of the case which hold broken parts from...

You said it was just a matter of when, not if

OK, I'm interested, since that statement sounds like there isn't a coolant out there that prevents corrosion.

You said it was just a matter of when, not if

That's hard to determine, so unless there is evidence of an external leak, water in oil, two adjacent cylinders without compression, foamy coolant, or use a combustion gas tester for the coolant, I wouldn't change gaskets. I occasionally do preventative maintenance no matter what you guys...

You said it was just a matter of when, not if

Dan, I hope you sell lots of gaskets. Really. I'm just trying to keep the information posted as accurate as I can. Your statement that the OEM gaskets "cause" corrosion is explicitly and technically incorrect. If you said they "exacerbate" or even "accelerate" corrosion, that would be fine...

You said it was just a matter of when, not if

If the pitted area was wet, as you said the coolant seeped through the composite gasket, then you should blame the coolant. The coolant additives are supposed to prevent corrosion and either because of age (old green coolant) or no flow (wet section was dead-ended) the additives weren't doing...

    Gen 1 - Idling Question

In my experience, just unplugging it and plugging it in again will make it forget. You may need up to 3-4 trips before it learns again, until then it will behave as you described. Having the AC on helps it learn.

    ACR as a daily driver?

Big, that made me laugh. If you're ever on the Taconic between 6:30-8 or 5-6, come bump draft. It's about having fun with the car and a little bit of thinking outside the hexagonal.

    ACR as a daily driver?

What size were they? I have 17" rims... sounds like I'd have to "upgrade" so I could get snows.

    ACR as a daily driver?

I have four drivers in the family and six cars. The Viper insurance is fifth expensive, after the two under-26 drivers, the "new" Charger, and wife's Jeep. (Last is a Dakota.) I have a choice of three cars at any time, unless it's snowing or downpour, I take the Emerald. Annual fuel at 20 MPG...

    ACR as a daily driver?

Um, I could be wrong, but lots of old posts said ACR was 500/1100 and people went to 500/850. http://forums.viperclub.org/2260338-post3.html My Charger gets same MPG as the Viper. If I take it easy they get 21-22. When I drive to work, closer to 18. City driving may favor the Charger...

    ACR as a daily driver?

I have a '94, but lowered with 550 / 800 springs to mimic the Gen II ACR. OEM shocks are set full stiff up front, half stiff in rear. My 40mm rear brakes, of course. Slight mods dyno at 408/490 at the wheels. Kumhos in 17" size. Haven't done it in a while, but have easily beat Gen II and...

Oil Change Update for Gen IV

In my days at Texaco, the passenger car Havoline motor oil sponsored Robert Yates Racing in NASCAR, Newman Haas Racing in CART, Jaguar F1, and Brad Anderson in Funny Car - all at the same time. Direct payment to teams was ~$40MM/yr or more? Add all advertising, hospitality, etc, etc, and...

Oil Change Update for Gen IV

Howdy. Multigrade motor oils are made by starting with the thin base oil to meet the 0W-xx or 5W-xx requirements, and then a thickening additive (viscosity index improver) is added to make the oil behave like a thick oil when it gets hotter. Synthetic oils need far less of this additive than...

    Radar detectors worth it?

I commute daily on the Taconic Parkway, a windy two-lane each way north of NYC with a generous 55 MPH limit and lots of minivans with space saver spares and no shocks. Those optimists reach 80 on the straights but down to 55 in the turns. The state police have unmarked Chargers - I see them...

    cooling questions

The green antifreeze uses silicates that coat the surface upon the first heating to protect against corrosion... but after 2-3 years it flakes off. The flakes are abrasive and cause water pump seal wear. Long life coolants (and there are many, different colors, etc) are all extremely low or...

Brakes - Going Lightweight - Gurus inside please

Good things come in small packages. The 40mm calipers (incl. parking brake) weigh less than a BBK calipers + parking brake. Cost is ~20% or about ~$3K less than other systems. Hawaii is small, but good! Fits under any wheel, even the spare. Performance is same until you are super track rat...

    The Threat of E15

No matter what side you are on, the USA needs some "bridge" to another fuel that competes with gasoline. Europe has gas and diesel. Brazil has ethanol and gasoline. The US has natural gas... When one goes up, the other becomes attractive. In the US, Ethanol doesn't seem like a long term solution...

    Caliper install Qs

For the record, anything on the threads should not interfere with bleeding. When the bleeder screw is loose, the hole just above the conical seat allows brake fluid to escape up the middle of the hollow bleeder screw. The reason self-bleeders have some type of "goo" is because they have a...
