    Thermostats

Hi Barry. I guess I should ask why you want to change your thermostat to 180? A thermostat change alone will net you very little if it is cooler running temps you are looking for. Remember that you must remove the intake manifold in order to change the thermostat. (This can be a 3+ hour job) If...

    Need Help With Exhaust Rattle

Sean,You answered your own question... PUT A SHIM IN THE RIGHT MOTOR MOUNT. Do NOT put a piece of rubber between the frame and the exhaust pipe or possible fire may result.

    lower octane in California

mjr, The "implications for using octane booster on a regular basis" are spending big bucks for little or nothing if you are just driving on the street. Excessive use of additives may actually harm your FI system. (imo)

    lower octane in California

91 Octane works just fine in my 650R here in Montana. My local altitude is 3671 ft. of very dry air. Octane boosters have shown no perceptible improvement here when added to premium fuel. I do find that the use of a slightly cooler NGK spark plug helps with detonation under full load, however if...

    Temporary high(1500) idle speeds

Todd, check the battery condition, and idle speed motor and intake gasket as stated before. If you restrict the air line to the idle speed motor (ie: the Hennessey fix), be prepared for extremely low cold engine idle as a result. If all the other things check out, you might try "flashing" the...

    lower octane in California

I don't get it, what's the problem here? The higher the altitude, the more I need a higher octane fuel in most of my vehicles in order for them to run properly. (Thin Air) When I go down to sea level, they run strong on less octane. This is true of both my "low" compression and "high"...

    ZAAAAAAP. CLICK. FIXED!

Chuck, the mini relays are just forward of the jump start post & power distribution center (which is mounted on the drivers side of the engine compartment in my 97 GTS). Look under the black square plastic cover!

    ZAAAAAAP. CLICK. FIXED!

Well this season has been full of Disappointments. My car has been "the Viper from Hell" since March when I started experiancing idle & running problems. The first thought was a weak battery. Replaced the battery. Replacment battery went dead. Tester showed defective battery. Replaced the...

    Low idle and stalling problem

If your battery is 3 years old or more,or your battery is in marginal condition, expect the idle to take a dump. Trust me on this one. If the battery is fairly new, load test it at a battery shop to make sure it is OK. If the battery is fairly old, replace it. A tired battery can cause all kinds...

    "Hanging Idle" problem fixed (Finally)

Re: \"Hanging Idle\" problem fixed (Finally) Martin-The battery drain issue was (would you believe it - Merphy's Law) a defective replacment battery. No High Performance PCM issue or short as first thought. I forgot to remind myself that new parts fail too! The idle "serge" was both low voltage...

    "Hanging Idle" problem fixed (Finally)

\"Hanging Idle\" problem fixed (Finally) I,like many, have experienced a "hanging idle" when the engine would not settle out after hard running. Sometimes the engine idle would stick at 2000 RPM or more. I replaced the idle control motor, and even thought the MoPar Performance computer was...

HMS: The good with the bad.

I had a similar experience yesterday. I emailed a question concerning electrics and manifold vacuum to John Hennessey and received a prompt response with a promise to ship a needed part the following day. Very encouraging. I will update you on any further service performance. (JD)

    hi coolant temp.

I installed a Heavy Duty Aluminum double core radiator which increased cooling capacity, a up-graded cooling fan module (standard on 98 & newer Vipers), a 180 degree thermostat, and two bottles of water wetter. This combination has worked to stabilize and control excessive water temperatures for...

    Squeaky Door Hinges

Lube it, or loose it! I've been through four driver's door hinges in 3 years. It's always the check mechanism that fails. Lousy design if you ask me, but darned little can be done to change it. (JD)

    Questions about Fuel Filter

Fuel filters don't usually fail, they get plugged up (usually by dirt). Dirty fuel is not as big a problem in most arias anymore, but if your filter is dirty or pluged, rest assured it has done its job. If you find your engine starving for fuel or the performance declining, the fuel filter is a...

    Tires........

Hi Robert. I'm a transplant from Hilo. I can appreciate your rain concerns. It's been about 30 years since I lived in your neck of the woods, but remember that the Hawaiian road surface was VERY abrasive on tires. I doubt it has changed much. If you use a soft compound tire, they will be worn...

    Oil Filter Mobile M1-204

Yup. The Mobile One filter supply seems to be drying up around here too. Out of desperation, I had to use a MoPar filter today. Now you can't seem to find a (M1-204) for love or money in this town. I find this particularly odd as this filter fits so many Chrysler products.

    $112 Oil Pan Gasket

Had to change out a cracked oil pan on my 97GTS today. Thought I would replace the gasket as well. The dealer charged $112 for the gasket PN 5037022-AA. Admittedly, after seeing it, this is some gasket. Is it reusable with in reason, or should it be replaced every time you pull the pan? I had no...
