Your skill should be all that gets between you and the tires.
There is not so irritating as having the car think for itself and get in the way.
Certain driving aids like seat belts and a windshield help you keep focus on what you are doing. For instance, without seatbelts you would spend way too much effort trying to hold on. Without a windshield, well, you would want a helmet to keep the bugs outta yer eyes.
A car that overrides your input, especially steering and throttle input, there's no joy in that.
BTW I've been commanding computer systems for 29 years. But I love my cars to be pure as possible.
