Just a quick update, Dave is still fighting an infection but has finally made it home.
Once the infection is gone, he'll begin the chemo treatments.

Hey Dave --

Keep up the positive attitude guy -- you can make it! I'm a survivor, so I know. We're all pulling for you.

Hey Everyone,
Dave was in the hospital for about 10 days. He was finally released and boy was he glad to be back in the comforts of home. He was making baby steps of progress, started eating a little bit of real food and was regaining some strength. He even got to where he was able to take very short walks everyday. Well after 15 days home he ended up back in the hospital with blood clots in his lungs. Luckily it was a short 3 - 4 day stay and was able to make it home for Father's Day.

I spoke briefly with him on the phone today. It seems like every time he gets just enough strength to maybe start the chemo treatment, something else sets him back. He is hoping that on Monday they will finally get started.
He has to give himself shots everyday to help thin his blood. This has really taken a lot out of him and he has very little energy right now. He sounded so winded just from our short 10 minute phone call. Nonetheless, I was glad to hear from him and really wish there was something that could be done to help him.
Unfortunately this is a solitary battle that only he can fight and it is going to take some time.
He knows we are all thinking of him and it goes without saying that he certainly appreciates all the thoughts and concern.
If you haven't sent him a playing card yet, please take time to do so; if you already have, send him another.

Lance

This is an email from Dave's wife Arlene which I received yesterday............

"Dave and I went to the oncologist this morning and the news isn't good. He's back in the hospital because he's lost so much weight and he's anemic and dehydrated. The doctor kept repeating that he will be there only a couple of days to make him more comfortable. Basically he had to tell Dave it's terminal and to get his affairs in order now. The chance chemo would do any good at this point is minimal and he did not recommend it. He would do it if Dave insisted. Right now, although I knew this was coming, I'm still in shock. I've told my daughter and will tell my son tonight. I want to thank all of you for your kindness and support during these trying times. I can't tell you how much it has meant to Dave and I. I'll keep you informed. Right now, the best way to contact me is through email. I'm really not feeling much like talking.

Arlene"

Very sad news no matter how you slice it.
Thank you everyone for taking the time to send a playing card out to him.
Now would be a good time to send another one just to let them both know how much the Viper Family is going to miss him.

This is so sad. I've only talked to Dave on the phone once or twice, but to read the most recent news from his wife is just heartbreaking. I'll keep you in my prayers, Dave. I hope the doctors are wrong!

I always figured Dave to be one of those folks that would out-live me. This is incredibly sad news and I will pray for you and your family Dave. Hang in there buddy...I hope the doctors are wrong.

damn...this is truely sad news.

Arlene, let me know if there is anything you need from me or any of us local folks. I've resisted the urge to pop in or drop an email because it sounded like it was best for you all to take care of what you needed. But know that you are in my thoughts. call if you need anything and I'll do what I can. A meal dropped off, a errand ran....what ever. I'm right around the corner and my number is in dave's phone.

This morning at 10:30, a very large group of Vipers will be parading past Dave's home to let him know that we are still here thinking of him and his family.

I know that those who can not make the drive with us will be there in spirit.

This is very sad. Dave, if your able to read this, I've enjoyed the few conversations we have had on the phone and trading emails. You have helped me with my Viper and have provided me with some very well engineered parts. Hang in there buddy.

Thank you everyone for your show of support for a very dear friend to the entire Viper nation.
With about 30 cars in single file line, we ran a "Missing Man" formation in front of Dave's house. Dave and his Wife were sitting in the garage watching as we all passed through. I took a brief minute to stop and deliver a bouquet of yellow flowers in a Viper vase and was able to hug my dear friend one last time. With tears streaming down both our faces, I managed to get out some words and assured him that there was support in spirit from across the entire Viper Nation there with us today.

His condition is not likely to get better and sadly will have to endure some very rough days still yet to come. Hopefully our visit today will provide him with some strength to fight through the pain.

Thanks for keeping us that are not conveniently located for such events informed.

I, as many, have spoken with Dave and emailed and so on as the collection of his parts accumulated on my car. I would sometimes even get random/surprise phone calls a few minutes after a post about a topic that he felt the need to educate me on. Always a pleasure to speak to him.

Anyway, people named Dave are typically pretty hard headed :)rolleyes:). If Big Brake Dave fights this cancer with the same vigor that I post with, well... :D

Hey Everyone,
I certainly appreciate all your compliments, but truthfully I do not deserve all the credit. The So Cal Club is made up of some of the greatest people I have ever known and many people put forth a lot of effort to pull this off in just one day. I am privileged just to be a part of it.

Aside from having great club members, we are lucky to have GREAT leaders as our current club President. Dan and Cathy are a great husband/wife team and their attention to every detail, organization and genuine heartfelt love of family and friends is what drives our club. They have put in more hours than I can even fathom and sacrifice their own experience's to ensure that the members are taken care of. Todays event was a prime example of that.

We all do what we can....today I feel like we lifted a huge mountain off of Dave's shoulder and hopefully gave his spirit a chance to smile and know how much love there is for him.

I was perfectly comfortable giving you all the credit Lance :D

Just keep us up to speed with the updates. I know that the club you are in is bigger than you. That does not matter to me or probably others.

Most of us live far away in regards to practical participation in the spirit of Viper ownership that is being shown, such as events like today. You have chosen to tell us about these events and updates - be our informant, so to me, that kinda makes you the hero here.

Keep up the good work with your club, and thanks for telling the rest of the Nation what's going on.
