Nothing to worry...I think we were one of the first to see the SRT-10 in Jan-2002...:2tu:

Is it just me, or is the guy in the drivers seat 13 feet tall? :lmao:

LOL. It all comes with time. If you spend as much time thinking about these cars as so many of us do, you'll get to know 'em as well as the 70 Challenger in no time.

So just for clarification....

Gen 1 - 1992 through 1995
Gen 2 - 1996 (intro of the GTS - Blue/White stripe coupe) through 2002
Gen 3 - 2003 through 2006 (coupe available only in 2006)
Gen 4 - 2008 through 2010 (there was no 2007)
Gen 5 - Chapter yet to be written.

:2tu:

Thanks I gonna lock that down in memory.

That's actually the factory option for the SRT8's (like the Charger). No spare, just a can of FAF and a small compressor. Gen-IV is the same way. No place to put a spare, and nobody likes the ZP's anyway.

So is the small compressor and FAF factory parts? If so where does it get stored and secured on the vehicle.

Thanks kcobean, you been very helpful!

Maybe this subject has been addressed on the forums for the 2003 model and I should go searching?

Glad to help! The 2003 wouldn't have the FAF or compressor because of the run flats, but it's in the trunk on the Gen4. I'm guessing the under-floor tray is different specifically for the purposes of accommodating the compressor and the can. That's not to say that if you switched to this method you couldn't find a clean way to secure them. If you'd like, I can take a few pictures of my trunk so you can see how everything is secured in place.

I have an SRT8 as well, and we have factory Compressor. For the Viper, I went to Pep Boys and bought one. Knock LOTS of wood! I'm superstitious!

LOL...no doubt....even with the compressor and the FAF, there's no saying you're not going to have a sidewall puncture, in which case all the FAF in the world isn't going to help. The design accomodates "best case scenario" only.

Welcome to the club. You are amongst some great people here. They are always more than helpful and willing to help out a fellow Viper driver. Find your nearest club and enjoy top of the line company. They can hook you up with all of the things going on in the Viper world.

I remember when I first got mine. I couldn't stay out of the garage and kept going out to see "her" all night long. With every Viper comes a million "smiles" and lots of happy miles. Once again welcome to the best club on Earth.

Hey a Viper in Fort Wayne! I live a short drive away in Bryan, OH. We go to Fort Wayne at least twice a month.

Congrats on the beautiful ride. I've been in love with Vipers since they came out and to be able to own one is amazing. I also stay away from Viper Alley. Those guys are a bit mean spirited for my taste. Hopefully you will have a pleasant experience on this site. I sure have :drive:

:headbang: But if you would like for me quote every engine available in the 70 Challenger, I am your man. ;)

I'm another old guy that can quote all Dodge engines from the 60s and then the turbos of the 80-90s. Resto-mod guy that moved up to supercharged Vipers.

Since you mentioned engines;
Gen 1 and 2 were 8.0L or 488 cubic inches.
Gen3 was 8.3L or 500ci.
Gen 4 is 8.4L or 504ci

All came with 6 speeds only although the Gen 4 was signifcantly stronger, as was the posi unit.

Gen 1 & 2s had Ujoints in the rear axles while 3 and 4 used CV joints. During 09 axles were changed over to solid for additional strength.

Gen 1 had 3 spoke cast aluminium wheels running 17" tires.

Gen 2 had cast 5 spoke wheels that were 17" until 99 when the wheels were forged and changed to 18".

'99-2002 an American Club Racer/ACR model was available with lightweight forged BBS wheels, adjustable Koni or Dynamic Susp racing shocks and 10hp increase in hp.

That should be a few basics for you in case you missed some, :2tu:

BillionDollarDan- Yep you are close. If you come in town, maybe we can meet. I have a busy schedule but I'd like to try.

RTTTed - thanks for the additional details.

I dont know the official ci from Chrysler, but from Metric conversion tables:
8.0 L = 488 ci
8.3 L = 506 ci
8.4 L = 512 ci

Yes if it is not too much, I would really appreciate it. I'd like to do it right.

Ok, better slow than never...here's the trunk on my ACR showing how the FAF module is mounted. Hope this helps!

The duffle bag is my ACR car cover. It just happened to be in the trunk so I used it for a backdrop. :)

Dang, GREAT story - I'm gonna go out right now and drive my car :headbang::usa:

PS: You look pretty fit for an "'ol guy".

Cheers!

Thanks I am a gym rat too. I visited Gold's Gym Venice a couple of years ago and the sign in the parking lot read "It is not the kind of car you drive but the size of the arm hanging out the window.":)

I humbly disagree. The car enhannces the arm out the window. :2tu:

Congratulations on chasing a dream. Never to late to do it. I have been working on my sons 94viper for the last 4 years. Recently, my wife told me for our 40th anniversary, I should buy my own. So I did. Bought a 2001 red RT10 in mint condition. I am 71.Now I have my own to work on.
