i have traction control(TC) on my srt8 jeep and even tho it is AWD the TC is useful on sharp turns in wet conditions as it prevents the rear end from fishtailing out but in dry conditions it ***** and pretty much takes over the car.
As an american who owns a corportation and has eaten the profits for many years i am glad i have the choice of a 600hp car without TC..It is not about being a wuss car it is about the driver being in control . Sure with TC u just kinda sit there and let the computer take over...i may as well mess with my navigation system if i have the TC on cos i sure don't need my eyes on the road/track
Also i don't think it takes a lot of time or training to become a decent driver ... i hate to say i watch "hogan knows best" but in a recent episode he (hogan) took just one lesson and vastly improved his skills. i think i'm gonna catch some flack for this hogan reference
I suppose one could put TC on the viper with the option of turning it off like other cars. Driving a car with the TC on is like sex with a ****** - u'll never really get to feel/know the inside of the car
Your SRT-8 isnt even remotely in the same ballpark, try driving a 600 hp car with no TC at the limit, and one driving lesson will NOT get you there. As you move up you get tires that dont tell you when you're letting go, they just go, you have to be prepared for that and it takes time SEAT TIME (if you have read or heard anything about road racing you'll know what I'm talking about). You have to have lightning quick, precise reactions because over reacting puts you in a worse situation.
My point is simply that for all these people beating their chest saying it wont be a viper w/ traction control, most of them cant drive worth a crap and many are responsible for the notorious reputation the viper has on the track. TC would be a benefit to this car, especially for people who end up on the track for the first time and they are in a viper. And no abs would be absolutely assinine!!
There just isnt enough emphasis on driving skill in this country to have people running around in these carzy hp cars without TC, of course once you are comfy driving at the limit you cant wait to turn it off. But I gaurantee you 90% of viper owners are not at that level and when they get into a hairy situation, BAMM!!!!!!
For Example: Road Atlanta Nasa Driving event two weeks ago, a guy shows up in a GTS with FULL racing slicks (non DOT) that has 600 hp (hennessey 600) AND ITS HIS FIRST TIME EVER ON A TRACK ------>>>> AT ROAD ATLANTA!!!!! RA eats cars like nobodies business, and I have personally watched two guys in SRT-10's make fools of themselves track day after track day until one put his car into the wall where I have never seen a car hit the wall before (the other has a vid on the net look up VIPER IDIOT).
Even seasoned Road Racers would be nervous pushing this car to the max, so Joe Blow really doesnt have much chance to learn and grow slowly by using the TC to determine the best lines for the car (many drivers use TC to test their lines, if your TC isnt coming on, you are in the cars comfort zone and still can be faster) but simply go running out like they are former F1 champions, and it's not just vipers, but all kinds of cars. My point is simply at this point the Viper should have TC.
