Scratched Viper idea and going with a C7 Z06

I'm really leaning towards the Z06 now, if it's around 85k or less I'm sold. Anyone need an 08 cammed Z06 with only 15k miles for their collection haha

if gm sells the new zo6 for 85k or less. your car now is worth 20k

Well I better hurry and sell then, KBB puts it at $50k currently which is probably $45k realistically. But you would think GM learned something from Dodge and how they overpriced the Gen V Viper thus their are hundreds just sitting in showrooms and not moving

"Scooped" from the '15 Z06 reveal:

- 8L90E 8-Speed Automatic available! Only 620+ hp car so equipped
- Steel torque tube replaced with woven c/f
- 60% more rigid chassis, with roof on, than C6 Z06
- 2.2" wider front track
- 3" wider rear track
- Wheel and tire sizes from C6 ZR1
- 3 levels, with varying degrees of aero downforce, with the Z07 version having more d/f than any production car GM's tested in their wind tunnel
- Compact 1.7L supercharger capable of 20,000 rpm and 9.5 psi of boost
- Pre-production versions set lap records @ Milford, beating ZR1 lap times

Well, with a total post count of 11, the first ones saying you can't afford a Viper, and the next being in a thread telling us you've decided to buy a Z06, I think the only thing left to say is good luck...don't let the door hit you on your way out!

Many of us enjoy that feeling that it is us that is making the car go fast, rather than just being along for the ride.

So if the Gen 5 ACR came out with a paddle shifter option and set a world beating time at Nurburgring you would disavow the record because the driver wasn't "connected" to the vehicle. No, you wouldn't. It would only apply to other manufacturers.

I never said I decided on the Z06 for sure, I've just been doing a lot of research and getting opinions. I'm a huge fan of both cars and don't see myself buying anything else besides one of the two because I like American sports cars. If I could I would get both in a heartbeat if I had that kind of money. Plus I've looked off and on at this forum for the last few years but I just recently became a member. I said I was leaning towards the Corvette because I like what I've seen but then again Corvettes are so common and I've owned multiple but never any Vipers so that's another reason why I would like to try something new maybe. I guess I'm a flip flopper.

I own a Viper, have never owned a Corvette. But, I respect all great cars. This new Z06 should be a hell of a machine. Lets look at some facts...

GM's Performance Traction Management system is the best, most sophisticated system of its type.
GM's magnetic adjustable shocks are the best, most sophisticated system of its type. Ferrari buys them from GM.
GM's Corvette uses a new electronic differential that is superior to the diff used in the Viper, and is a big advantage in cornering by helping the car to rotate.
The Corvette Z06 will be offered with Carbon Ceramic brakes which are vastly superior to the Vipers.
The Z06 LT4 engine is supercharged which means you will see easy, massive power from swapping pulleys and tunes like the ZR1 has seen.
It appears the new Z06 will offer at least an automatic trans, and possibly a DCT. Look at what that has done for Porsche and GT-R's performance.

Saying things like, "Oh, but it will be just like every other car sitting in a WalMart parking lot" is childish. Its funny how for the last 15 years, we Viper owners have mocked the Ferari crowd by pointing out how our Vipers could destroy their cars and made fun of them for saying our Vipers were a dime a dozen and made by Dodge using a truck engine. I absolutely LOVE my 1996 Viper GTS that I have owned since she was 6 months old. Its an icon. I love the V10! I love how crude it is! But, I also respect and LOVE this new Z06. GM has done a great job with the Corvette since the 2006 Z06 arrived. This is the next step.

IMO......I had planned to trade in my Viper for a Gen V when they were announced. However, in the end, the Gen V is more or less a rebodied Gen IV. Yes, I know about what all was updated, but in MY opinion, it is basically a rebodied Gen IV. The Corvette has a better suspension, better shocks, better diff, better brakes, etc. The Corvette moved forward one full generation, and the Viper didn't. Then, the Viper jumped its price into the stratosphere. To me, the only advantage the Viper has over the C7 Z06 is the fact that you never see a Viper, and there are no "base model" Vipers to dilute the brand. In every other facet, the new Z06 comes out on top, IMO.

Jeff. Your wrong. There are less gen3 viper than Gallardos. Our viper is the real deal. Big power. Out of this world looks and extremely rare.

Basically we can say what ever we want as we meet all criteria.

I have seen one viper on the road in the past six months. I saw a Ferrari and Lamborghini on the road in the past week. I pass atleaste two z06s weekly.


It does matter. Exclusivity and wow factor are huge bonuses of viper ownership

Just a couple correctsions:
1) brake comment in unfounded on the "vastly superior" comment.
2) better suspension? what information is telling you that
3) Viper pricing in stratosphere - easy to get a GenV for less than $100k, so not sure what referring to.

Do you guys really believe this Z06 is going to be less than $100k? I would be shocked if it was and think we might be confusing the name with a prior price. I guess we find that out on Monday.

atleast from the images listed, huge improvement over the base car. Unfortunately, not sure anything could improve the looks of the rear.

Well if the Z06 comes in at SRT price levels let's check sales figures in a year.
They shouldn't sell any better than Gen V's then assuming similar performance?

ZR1 had the supposedly superior CCB's, traction management and suspension but was basically matched by the TA without. Tech and equipment list isn't everything, but at least will help the Corvette be a better daily driver while remaining a top performer. I don't personally care if it's quicker or slower than the Viper...that's not why I chose the TA over whatever the Z06 will turn out to be.

Looks like a SEMA car..anyway, don't you guys think its interesting that the only RWD MANUAL'S that seem to be left are American cars? They will sell more Z06's than all versions of Viper, there are over a million Vette enthusiasts in the US alone I'm sure.

The TA has two suspension settings available. Street and track. You can change the setting on the fly by pushing a button. It works and works well. I have used it.

Those who have not driven the Gen V for any length of time are really not in a position to give a fair comment on the car.

They are basing their opinion on hearsay and perhaps some less than objective magazine driver's accounts.

The Gen V is a stunning achievement by SRT.

Prices have dropped dramatically. Those who buy one now will not regret it. It is a shrewd purchase.

Being a previous owner of a couple Z myself, I'm excited about the reveal myself but I assure you there is some kind of connection to the
Gen 5 that I've never had with another car. There is something about it that just can't be put into words.
I haven't even beat on it, I think i slow reved it to 6k one time and most of the time under 4k. This car is just so unique that I don't feel the
need to prove it's abilities. Now, Because of how it make me feel driving it I want to track it and I have never wanted to track any car that I have owned. Plus on the street its just dangerous.
I suggest test driving one before you make your mind up. I doubt many can even push this car to its limits as with the vette too so it's really down to personal preference.

I would love to rest drive one but I have a feeling it would be hard, I think there's only like 5 within a 100 mile radius of me and the two I physically looked at were all roped off in a special display like they were museum pieces. Plus being 27 but looking like I'm in my early 20's doesn't help either, they don't really give me the time of day.

I have a feeling the possibility of test driving a Z06 is a long shot as well..for the first one or two production runs anyway.

I'm sure it will be the same way. I actually never test drove a Z06 prior to buying one but I knew I would like it because it would be an improvement over the C6 base coupe I owned. I'm 99.9% sure I would like driving a new Viper but maybe I should test drive one just to make sure.

Actually, I think it's funny that a Vette owner is calling out Vipers as Cruise night only cars. As a percentage of total vehicles out there, I can assure you more Vipers are tracked than Vettes. Not that there is anything wrong with just owning a cruise mobile. Just a silly comment.

Ironically, my ACR is my daily driver, and my Vette is my Cruise Night only car. :)
