What tunes or modes has anyone done to the 08 vipers?
Thanks
Thanks
Spoke to an Mopar engineer yesterday at SEMA about the ECU and he said calibration is almost done and they are just finalizing the specs. He said they will release the information soon and just keep an eye out here in this forum. I was trying to get an HP number out of him but he wouldn't say much of anything else.
When do they expect to have the ECU calibrations? Will this be something we can have done to our own ECUs, or do we need to either: (1) send off our ECUs to Dodge, or (2) buy a new ECU with the tune already made? Thanks.
You won't be disappointed with the numbers especially considering the price.
With the problems associated with an off road only "flash" I'm sure you will be purchasing a new PCM programmed with the changes. This will insure that the tune is sold as a non CARB approved part. Remember though the new systems in the Viper will remember that this change has been made so even if you switch it back there may be a record stored somewhere in the cars on board software. If you have an ACR this will likely not be an issue because the warranty is so thin anyway .
If you are using this with the Belanger headers the results will be even greater than without the tune so maybe we will see a 90+ hp gain? That would be OK wouldn't it?
Mark --
I know you can only report preliminary information but I am assuming this ECU upgrade will be for "off road use only" as with the 2003-2006 Viper Mopar ECU upgrade. What real-word impact is there for a consumer? For example, my Belanger header and exhaust package is also designated "off road use only" by Lou Belanger but so long as the system continues to throw no codes/CELs, my local Department of Environmental Quality does not care in terms of emissions testing. Likewise, my local Dodge dealer is, like you, fairly mod friendly and this has not been an issue. Any hidden pitfalls you are aware of other than a potential warranty issue?
Likewise, do you have any information as to whether the new 2008 ECU upgrade will result in a CEL? Also, will the ECU upgrade deactivate the A/C system or other functions in the car like the 2003-2006 ECU upgrade?
Thanks for your feedback.

Mark,
Give me a call or send me an email when it is done. I would like to see what it does to the beast you built me.
I'll be in for one too

How does the +90 hp with PCM upgrade and Belanger exhaust relate to the theory that the 8.4 is maxed out at 600 hp and any performance modifications need a piston swap? I have heard that the pistons are the weak link. My opinion is that horsepower does not affect the pistons as much in naturally aspirated conditions as it does in forced induction applications, but i was wrong once before. Does anyone else have any first-hand information on the '08 strength reliability/issue? I know that they are the same pistons that are from the 6.1 Hemi. How can they be weaker than the '06 pistons if they are both hypereutectic (spelling?) anyway?
I hope this is not opening up a whole can of worms, but I just want to try and get a true assessment of the '08 block and internals prior to modifications.
What did Mark put in your "Beast" and have you had it on the dyno yet?Mark,

Mark will these new ECUs give an additional boost above the Belanger's and if so how much can we expect and about how much will it cost? I see you already answered this question, so we can expect about an additional 20 hp increase above and beyond the Belanger system, right? I want one as soon as it comes in, put me on the list too!
will it give a hp increase if you do not do any other mods?
Mark. Will it improve throttle response ??
Mark,
Do you know if the new software will remove or at least move the preset torque management number far enough up so we can utilize some small power adders like 100 or 150 shot of nitrous? If not, can you please request that or at least bring it up for discussion?
No one has been able to crack the stock ECU yet so power adders are out of the question so far for the 2008. Thank you for your help.
sounds great put me on the list and let me know when it is available.
