We have many of our VCA members in Military Service in Afghanistan, Iraq, and in other parts of the world. If you know of a VCA member in your region that is serving abroad, please email or contact your Regional VCA President. Make arrangements to get a care package off to them.

I just got done sending a couple of care packages to one of our Ohio members in Afghanistan. Here are some ideas of what you can send:

Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Dental floss
Deodorant
Chap Stick
Hand Sanitizer
Eye Drops

Crystal Light - powder in small boxes - assorted flavors
Chewing gum
Cookies - individually wrapped
Beef Jerky
Peanut butter crackers
Hard Candy - Jolly Ranchers
Cheese crackers
Nutrition Bars

Hat
Viper t shirt
Water bottle
Mopar Magazines ****
flashlight
batteries
Hand warmers

You get the idea...

Seal everything in Glad zipper bags. The post office has APO flat rate boxes.

Lets show our VCA members who are serving overseas how much we appreciate them!

Brilliant idea Randall! I am sure it is very much appreciated on the other end.

Btw, solid choice of magazine! They don't want things like Super Heavy Chebby and Found On Road Dead magazine over there!

As someone who just got back from the desert, I can add a couple things for your list.

Toilet paper -- we take 2 and 3 plie (sp?) for granted

tissue --- its nice to blow your nose without paper towels

cold/flu medication, nyquil, cough drops...stuff like that. Many small fobs don't have a BX to buy this stuff from and lots of guys don't want to waste their time at a doctor just for some cough drops

magazines of all types. cars, motorcycles, fitness, fashion, health.... even if the recipient of the care package doesn't like it, I can just about guarantee someone around them will enjoy it.

send a local news paper. It is nice to read what is happening localy and gives a little touch of home.

Those are a few things that I remember that stood out when I was getting care packages. I don't really reccomend baked goods. Most people out there are trying to get in shape and while the cookies are good, its not good for getting buff. If you want to send food, send protein bars/mixes or pre-packaged food like microwave rice (I lived on uncle ben's 90 second rice) and canned meat.

Thanks to the military members out there. I been over there twice and I know it can really **** sometimes.

Hold on, you can get cold/flu meds easily? Wow that isn't something I considered in my little civi mind, personally I live on that stuff in the winter. In any event thanks for the post and your sacrifice.
