Viper Top Speed

I was wondering what the top speed of a stock GTS is. I had mine around 170mph in 5th with only about 1000rpm left until I would have to shift. Do we use all 6 gears in top speed? Someone told me that if you shift to 6th when going that fast it is bad for the transmission. Is that true?

M/T issue of May '98 got a stock 1997 GTS up to 192.6 mph. But I recall it was a RED GTS w/yellow wheels and 11,000 miles on it that ran the 192.6 then sprung a coolant leak.

I think it's a moot point as with a stock Viper you will likely lose speed shifting at 170 or higher to 6th. I think 145-150 might be around top speed in 6th gear. Even the mighty Viper engine can't overcome a .5 gear ratio with a 3:07 rear end.

Dose make you proud to remember how awesome are cars were and still are..12.2 at 118 mph is still fast even by todays standards. And a few different magazines got 11.7-11.9 at 120 mph from our baby's.

It's funny, I remember when that exact article came out. I was only 16 at the time. I was telling everyone then that I was going to have a viper someday. That was when everyone was telling me no way, you won't get one.

Ha Ha 8 years later and I have one, its nice to know that this car can hand some rubber to an F355 for half the cost!
