What Would Cause This?

The intake manifolds look all chewed up on this original 200 mile car...Overly aggressive cleaning?

Definitely some aggressive solvent that was applied. Only an aesthetic Issue methinks, but nasty lookin

Thats common for the manifold to flake apart like that when the car sits in water up to the side view mirrors for any length of time. Otherwise it looks good for a flood car. Just kidding, the engine was just probably over heated real bad. Should be good to go.

doesn't look like a 200 mile car to me, the black of the brake booster indeed is corroded, this doesn't happen when properly putten away and the overload of shine under the hood makes it one ugly oiled up total...

Most likely a solvent put on the intake to try to clean off the brushed aluminum on the intake. They may have done the valve covers too. If they put something on there to clean it and then ran the engine, the heat could have destroyed the powder coat.

The brake booster could be something along the same lines. Some cleaner or wax on there then a heat cycle.

You can get the intake and valve covers done. A good powder coat company can do a great job. The color is just "red crinkle". What you have to careful with is the fuel injector ports (these have to remain perfectly clear of everything) and the lip and inner portion of the valve covers. I did both recently and it came to about $300 for the three parts.

This is why you get threads about a certain car being way overpriced because it's being compared to a car like this. 90% and I'd say that's a realistic number of the people posting about values here are complete idiots. Know NOTHING about car restoration, are clueless how to actually judge the value of a car and what the costs are to bring a car like the one shown to OEM standards. The car is ORIGINAL once in its lifetime, the first drive begins the process of degradation. The cost difference of the 10-20k more for a truly perfect car over that Craigslist car is nothing. If you really understood the collector car world, you'd get it. Like I said at least 90% here don't! and I'm being generous. When a real collector who has the cash and wants a real documented car, he's not looking at Craigslist. He's also jot going to Johnny's used cars either.
