No Way! You could own 3 Stealth R/T TTs instead. Winter Vipers! Since these cars were only supposed to beat corvettes, they had to "cutback" on the engine's power for North American sales. From 13Gs making 360hp to 9bs that only made 300hp which changed to 320hp (upgrade to 9psi) when the vettes got closer to the Stealths in 93. DD means iced and snow compatable and if you've got an SRT4 then you should be able to imagine an SRT6 with AWD AWS, digital climate control, Electronic Controlled Suspension, electric seats, stereo, 25mpg @ 80mph while making 500hp.

My Winter Viper I used to tow other cars (Turbo 2.2s) to carshows and show 2 cars at a time. Most of my Carshow trips were 1,000 miles.

sorry I don't like vettes, but it's because they get beat by V6s, Japanese cars and even Italian cars. I'm sure that you beat a Z06 or two with your SRT4? Viper is King and Stealth R/T TTs rule all the rest of the time.

2004 they upgraded the shocks, performance-wise, that's it. I THINK the wheels were somewhat lighter too, but they are still the same look-gunmetal grey.

Lemans color was available with the CF hood.

Wheels:
2001 = Alcoas, forged.
2002-2004 = Speedlines, cast, should be a lighter.

As Leslie said, 2004 shocks are improved. Also the Z16 (2004) is the one with the CF hood, LeMans blue with the twin silver stripes and red pinstriping. In general, each year got better.

Thanks for the offer Joe. I really apreciate it. Also about the buying a regular c5 instead of the zo6 im not sure of the real life performance differences but im sure it has to be more than the extra 55 hp. Thanks again for all the input guys and gals.

I had a 2000 coupe before I got the 2002 Z06

Difference was night and day, completely different car as far as performance

would you own a C5 Zo6 as your daily driver?

Never. First, my DD (whenever I'm not pedaling to work) would have to have decent handling in ice and snow for the winter commutes. Second, having a Viper and a Chevy bowtie car in the same garage would be like having Rush Limbaugh and Obama living in the same house. It just wasn't meant to be.

LOL...yes, we constantly have to break up fights in the garage with our C6 and Viper~!:dunno::smirk:
(Or they're mating, we can't tell, no little red/silver lil ones popped out yet! ;))
No, it's not a Z06...we have had them before however, but no, none of these are/were daily drivers, as roadijeff said, not in our winters. ~juli

I wouldnt mind another Viper but they are a little more expensive to maintain and all the parts are hard to get when you need them in a hurry. also trying to find shops that you trust and people that you trust with your car is a little hard for me. Plus they are a little out of my price range at the moment.

One more thing. I love my gts for the raw driving experiance it gives me and the fun i have driving it. Im not sure how most feel but if i had that everyday instead of just sometimes i think it would take away how special that moment of getting in it and driving it would be.

Go with the C5Z...great cars. I have had an 01, 02 and 03...liked them all, until I moved to an 06Z...night and day..then to an 08Z.

The C5Z's can be had for low 20's now...amazing price for the car you get.:2tu:

I have the privlege of owning a C5 Coupe and a 2008 C6 Z06 (Limited Edition 427 Wil Cooksey special). I love driving my new 09 SRT10 Roadster but for refined comfort and ease of driving the Z06 is tops. It is very fast: 0-60 1st gear in 3.7 sec, top speed 198 mph. Dont know what the stats are on my Viper but I do love driving it. First convertible I ever owned. Either car will have you grinning ear to ear, but you will encounter much fewer Vipers for sure.

C5s are nice... and you can get them cheap now too. Z06 would be a plus. A much tamer car than a GTS, but a good daily driver for sure.

Hi Jeff~~Just wanted to point out that you get the VCA Membership for free, and if you haven't received your VCA Member # as of yet, call Kim or Fiona at JRT/Viper HQ, 1-800-998-1110 weekdays. If you do have your VCA #, private message that to the admins. who will upgrade you to VCA Member, along with the Region you prefer to join. (lee00blacksilvergts, kcobean will help you) Thanks for sharing your pictures, very nice Viper and Vette, from a Viper/Vette household here too.:drive:

Didn't you just take your Roe setup off due to funds and now your looking at buying another car?

More expensive to maintain?

Synthetic oil costs the same no matter what car you put in.

Oil filters can't be that significant of a price difference.

Spark plugs and brake pads are around the same price as well.

I'll stick by my original statement that Vipers make great DD's as well... If you want refined and comfortable, buy a Lexus.

The 'mating' comment was tooo funny Jewel. I knew immediately that the Viper gets on top. To see if there's been any 'hanky panky' you could just look for rub marks or love bites on the vette! Maybe 'wet spots' under or beside the vette? :)

As Julie said Vipers are great but not for driving in severe winters (like hers lol). The Viper's Michelins don't come in a Winter/Snow version and in most of North America that means that they are illegal to drive for several months of the year. No, they don't make snow chains for the Mtn passes where you are allowed to "have winter tires or carry chains". A Jeep SRT8 or 300 with AWD would be a better choice.

I stated that insurance was too expensive for many of us we could buy an older used car with 1 or 2 years worth of insurance money ($3200). You may wish a cheaper alternative for fuel consumption for the extra upcoming fuel taxes and gross profits? Say an SRT4, or V6 300 or Cahllenger? the Calibers get excellent mileage if you're after new.

Occaissionally I really hate parking my Viper in some areas as the wheels and tires are so valuable and crime costs us so much money. The vette uses common bolt patterns and although not as valuable they're still worth a lot of money. Car theives also target vettes.

As Chuck said I would recommend a second Viper for a DD if you are thinking of a vette.

I had bought a 2004 Commemorative on a whim this past spring. While it was somewhat comfortable and quick, it was boring to me. I would recommend a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 as a DD. I had one of those for the last couple years and totally loved driving it. It would put a grin on my face every time I stomped on it:drive: Those Jeeps are just plain badasp.

If you go for the Vette, you should be able to get it for closer to $23 or $24K as well.

I really apreciate all the opinions on this subject. As far as expensive to maintain i meant parts and availability of the parts when you really need them fast. Vipers i know are reliable cars but when things do go wrong its more expensive than the vette parts. Ive considered the srt-8 jeep but they are still well out of my price range and as for the comment about me selling my roe bc i needed money that was and is true. Im not looking to buy a new vehicle and in fact am selling two of my cars in order to save money on insurance but as i get rid of my other cars i still would like to have something fun to drive. I love my srt-4 and with the weight less and the power about identical to the zo6 im not sure ill be getting something faster but im kinda tired of the front wheel drive. Also about the lexus comment thats what my wife drives. Again thanks for all the info on the car.
