    For something not so unsightly you can run the cable under the cowl in some protective wire covering, then in (through a custom fitting) through the grommet on the passenger side....sealed and watertight of course. Grab a mount from www.rammount.com as seen below and you're all set!

    Are you talking about hooking it up with the hood open, sittin in the garage....or are you talking about on the road? My VEC2 came wired for the former.....I have since extended that serial cable into the passenger compartment and can log/tweak and play solitaire as I drive down the road. :)
