I have an invitation to the 2012 Grassroots Motor Sports Ultimate Track Car Challenge.
Was wondering if any Viper folk have competed in the past.

This post was almost 6 years old. I'd forgotten I'id even posted it.
In answer to your questions:
The car is very fast. Absolutely wicked on a road course. With so much weight taken out of the rotating mass of the engine, it revs like crazy. Put your foot on the gas, and the torque...
Sorry. No pictures. It wasn't really the disc. It was the splines at the center. They had just been kind of bent/worn off. (One of the few disadvantages of 700 lb-ft of torque.)
The pad material and the rest of the disc was fine.
I like it. It's ok to drive on the street, and clamps hard on the track or strip. Pedal pressure is harder than stock, but if you're driving a Viper you're not a wuss, so that's likely not an issue.
It's a good compromise if you want/need a high performance clutch that you can drive on a...
My McLeod Street Twin clutch broke a while back.
The splines that interface with the input shaft on the transmission wore out.
I sent it back to McLeod for a rebuild.
The called today, and let me know that they did the rebuild at no charge.
I was pleasantly surprised by this, as I expected...
Supposed to be a stiffer chassis. If so, that's good, as the chassis was already good.
Would be interesting to know more about the dampers and springs.
I love the looks of the car.
Also disappointed with the hp numbers.
My n/a 2004 has over 700hp. Given all of the engineering resources available at Dodge, how difficult could it have been to get the numbers north of 700?
I love the looks of this car. I think it is the best looking Viper yet. Takes the best part of the Gen II through Gen IV body styles and synthesizes them into a beautiful, amazing shape. SRT clearly didn't please everyone with the new body style, but they definitely pleased me. I'd put...
Any other Viper folk going to the IRPCA event at Miller Motorsports Park Sept 23-25? There are not a lot of opportunities to run the full track. This is one of the few that I know of. I'll be there on the 23rd.
This is probably not a good idea. That underside sheet metal is part of the aerodynamic package on the car. It provides significant downforce at speed.
Things I have done to lose weight.
Custom billet crankshaft (29 pounds lighter than stock)
Lightweight pistons, rods, etc. (not a lot of overall weight lost, but lightening up rotating mass is a good thing)
Corsa exhaust with crossover delete
Carbon fiber drive shaft; (actually didn't lose...
My older Mintex pads I would characterize as full race pads. They bite very very hard, are not much affected by heat, squeal like a banshee, and tend to grab at low speed.
They're on my car now, in anticipation of an upcoming track day. When I switch them out, I will compare part numbers and...
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'm not really a fan of that design.
It looks like a rich man's cruiser, not a crazy-fast semi-insane car like the Viper I know and love.
(GTO is gorgeous, though.)
This looks like a pretty good deal on Mintex brake pads: $33.45 for a pair seems pretty cheap. I ordered a couple of pair.
