My only guess as to why Vipers are not moving is the cost, definitely not due to lack of interest. On the way back from Paddock MotorSports yesterday, me and Viper Tony attracted so much attention, we had a fan club of cars (attempting to) follow us as we, lets just say, had a really good time driving home.:D

Vipers are the rarest well-known sports car out there less than 200k, except the Ford GT. There are countless more Ferraris, Porsches and Lambo's than Vipers. My only guess is that many people that can afford Vipers many not have the strong patriotic passion that most Viper owners have, and end up buying Porsches. Or they lack the balls to drive a 600 hp car w/out nanny control and cup holders.

For me personally, when it comes to trucks and sports cars, its a sin to buy anything not made in the U.S.A! :usa:

And before RTTTTTTed gets on my case...I consider our fellow Canadiens our brethren too!:can1:

For the most part, the high demand colors (Green, Orange, Blue) pretty much sold well. It is about time that Dodge did some radical colors and it proved to work!

The problem seems to be with Venom Red since that is mostly what is now available. I would say that about 75% of the listings on eBay, Autotrader, or at physical dealerships are this color and although it is a nice color it is not a typical Viper color. As a result there are nice discounts available on this color.

I will still never really understand why dealers ordered this color the most instead of say, even blue or regular red, not to mention GREEN!

I think it was ordered by the dealers because it was available early and it was perceived as appealing to more potential buyers----a "safer" color.

I think VR is a great color with White or Silver stripes. But stripes are key for that color - it's a night and day difference. Any dealer or buyer should seriously consider having stripes put on the VR cars.

Very true. I would not think of Green as being a safe color to tell you the truth. I LOVE that color but to be honest, I do know if I would have order a few of them as a dealer as I would not be sure how they would sell.

Iam basically just trying to blow the car out asap so i can buy a coupe from Buhler and enjoy the summer in NJ.Trading it in would be tough because Darren (Buhler ) already has 4 Venom Red cars on floorplan.

Did you see what he will give you for the car? Sales Tax benefits might be of interest but I am not sure what he would offer. Anything under $73,000 would not be worth it.

There are more than VR's out there sitting on lots.

Ringgold has 14 08's on the floor right now, and plenty besides Viper Red. Woodhouse has 6 on the floor, no VR's. That's only two dealers=20 cars. The lots are filling up. Maybe the dealers will be more liberal on trade-ins soon. :2tu:

I was shocked to even find SSG versions under sticker but not by much. Once summer is over, the prices will begin to settle but since summer is here right now and all the new colors are coming out, the prices for the most part are going to remain high. Right now, it is a pay to play game.

I've got no problem waiting it out, or sticking with my Gen II. I sure as hell ain't gonna trade it for $30k. It seems that dealers don't give decent prices on used Vipers period (bc they don't want the inventory), so the 08 resales will likely be going for major discounts. I don't see anyone getting $78,500 for one, that's for sure. I can get a B/W brand new for $81k, and coming down every day. After the 4th of July, sports car sales seem to slump in most areas. With Gen III's going for $43k, I would say that's a smarter buy than an 08 for 99% of the public. I haven't heard of an 08 breaking a single track record...even the ACR. Nobody has posted a time at the Ring. So far, the 600HP is just sales hype, bc a lot of guys with Gen III cars are pushing 650 with minimal mods. It seems the 08 isn't as mod-friendly so maybe it isn't an upgrade worth buying in the long run. I hear the new gen Z06 motor has some issues too. Everyone speculates that the tuners will get up to speed on them, but by then the ZR1 will be out and get ready to dump $$$$ into your 08 to beat one. I know that's not helping sell the 08's, but I don't think color is your problem. There are numerous other UNIQUE COLOR cars on the streets. It isn't that big a deal. No unusual color is that desirable (not enough to save the brand, that's for sure). Porsche has been doing custom colors for ever, and the most popular is still and always will be silver. I would take a silver SRT-10 over a green (any shade), purple or orange anyday. What I would like to see is for the Viper to shed some serious poundage and still have carpet, A/C and roll up windows. Just my 2c.

Without even trying hard you can buy new '08 Vipers at roughly invoice. Have been offered a black '08 coupe with less than 10 miles at $1,000 over invoice and have been offered a venom red at invoice less 1/2 of the holdback. It is definitely tempting as I had been considering a used '06 with a paxton or a new Z06. The price gap is closing.

for gen 3s to get into the 650 plus hp they need to sink in alot of money .the 08 is worth every penny imo, with the zr1 comming it will be in the 125 k or even higher .i think 2-5 years will be the end of the high hp era for domestic vehicles.love the 08 best viper ive had and this is my 5th one
