Off topic, but ...... So if there was an "Owner" membership category that would allow you to support the website - would you consider that? What would you feel would be a reasonable cost for that membership category? In 4 1/2 years you have almost 3000 posts - and I would bet you've received substantial priceless advice - so is it wrong to ask for some sort of support for the website?
I realize the ? was not directed to me but I feel I should respond because I will probably be in the same boat in the near future: Interesting concept and I would think $ is a viable option...However, most "cool" sites are free: wikipedia, corvetteforum, 6speed, redstate, craigie's list, etc. To me, as long as you run a decent site and provide good service then when the time comes to raise $, "ask and you shall receive" would be preferred to forcing a membership. When comparing the two, I have donated more $ to website/groups
voluntarily as opposed to being
forced to contribute - Capitalism vs. Socialism, right?
I could be wrong but The Viper Mag, calculator, and insurance is probably not what most folks are interested in, based on what I have seen/heard in the short time I have been around - it's probably more all about the relationships. You also might consider opening up VOI to non-members, just have them pay more $. I understand this was possibly the procedure before so I would be curious as to what happened (if someone responds with 'perform a search' then my mindset is more-and-more confirmed!).
I guess it depends on whether you are looking at Viper/VCA from a relationship standpoint as opposed to making $. Just my 2 schillings.
