    Intake Gasket Failure? Advice Needed...

Your intake gasket is a possibility for the cause of the catalitic convertors overheating. I have however, witnessed the cats overheating without this. I shall assume the car was idling for a period of time. Maybe after a recent full power run. It is prudent to check the EGO sensor values...

    THANKS ALL ! No, I mean T H A N K S !!

Jon, You mean a lot to the entire Viper Nation, and especially to those of us you have helped and gotten to know over the years. Thank you for being here. I gotta go, tears are welling up.

    HEAT SHIELDING QUESTION

You can make your own heat shielding two ways. Buy the blanket type, available from many sources, Pegasus, Summit etc. If you like doing your own even more, buy heavy duty alum. foil, some owens corning glas insulation and make a sandwich. Either one works. Use spray 3M to install.

    Comp Coupe

Mike, telepathy I guess, parts worked well. So OK without the humor I have to tell you guys, that new coupe is gonna kick some pretty tall "A". Eric Peterson, the assigned chassis engineer spent the week-end with the car answering all comers questions, and there were plenty. He also is...

    Drivers Wanted!

Tom: I am very pleased to see you do this. I hope people are giving you and this program a serious look. This arrive and drive program takes someone with good insight and fortitude to do. You were just the man for it. You are a good business person/enthusiast/ and heck of a driver...

    Dyno question? Experts please respond.

Two probabilities: When the battery is disconnected the engine computer will lose it's short term memory. It takes some run time to re-learn this and it is done as the car is driven over the next 50 miles or so. In the mean time the engine may not idle perfectly or jerk around a little. It...

    Comp Coupe

Jerry, I am willing to venture a guess. The brakes are fed with large air tubes that tend to get pinched at high steering angles. The need for a tighter radius on a racing car is minimal anyway unless "corner exit power on oversteer" is your thing. We spent a good couple hours pawing over the...

Weight lost question for 2001 GTS

Short of Mr. Schillinger most of your friends offered good entertainment. Is your goal of 200 lbs attainable for a street machine? Yes absolutely. Let's start with rotating mass and as the saying goes, 1 lb of rotating weight is worth 10 lbs of vehicle weight. Stock rims weigh 22 to 26 lbs...

    Brakes upgrade question

Some really great information provided by a good many of you here. Some not so great but welcome just the same. After 5 years of doing my best to go over the design limit of brakes on Vipers I can agree with the following: Drilled rotors mean little to nothing followed closely by slotted...

Help, 2 gearboxes distroyed in one day

Interesting: Many of our transmissions used in Viper Racing League have been losing their 5th gear. We are rebuilding them on a regular basis. Parts and service questions are available with my Crew Chief/Viper tech Rick Maxwell and Viper administrator Nancy Shanno at [email protected] or...

Talk to Paulo Castellano, around Chicago, SVSi will also have info for you. SVSi installed what I think was a Lenco in Paulo's car.

    Personal Viper performance upgrade experiences

Warranty claims are honored from dealers that show a good track record. If the dealer has shown a propensity to lean too far toward the customer in his judgement, ie: submit for warranty when it is some other cause, then he gets assigned to prior approval, then audit, then chargeback. So...

Need Replacement O Ring for my Stock Prop Valve: Lessons in Brake Modification (long)

One last thought on your single wheel lock up Rocky, all of the diagnosis could be thrown out if you have a brake hung up. Look for a stuck piston, cocked or poorly aligned caliper, uneven pad wear.

Need Replacement O Ring for my Stock Prop Valve: Lessons in Brake Modification (long)

Rocky, David Tittle, Dilusi Motorpsorts is giving you good advice. From the limited amount of info (you never told us what calipers you installed in the front) it sounds like the O ring will do you no good. In fact I would pretty much bet on it. The stock system does not reduce pressure...

How do I reduce my Vipers Weight

jp: Big weight first: Stock hood and brackets weighs 87#s, fiberglas autoform is 27, kevlar is 12. Doors, remove completely, install aftermarket fiberglas by autoform, reasonable cost, saves about 40#s each. Reason, door beam gaurds etc. Use original aluminum hinge and latches. Drop 20...

    Track Suspension Setup Considerations......

This thread reminds me of one we did three years back when we were developing the alignment specs for track events. Dean Word and several others were involved, people that were running up front or garnering the national championships in Viper Days and World Challenge. Please do not flame me...

    Brake cooling

This has been done many times. You can see it on Dan Downs Viper Days race car and some of the World Challenge Vipers may still have this. A fiberglas specialty tube was used to help route the hose. My car was done this way at one time. I abandoned the idea. At 80 mph the hole goes dead...

Re: I\'ve just completed the Viper Sex Appeal analysis.. Mr. Pemberton, Just finished scanning this thread. I just talked to the boys at the Ford store and they would like to have a visit with you in the morning. Bring your hat, sounds like you might use it to carry a part of your anatomy out...

    3 - 2 shift at 100+ MPH??????

Many years now of hearing about missed 3-4 upshifts, finding 2nd instead. Not pretty when the clutch gets fully released. No, the car has no free-wheeling capability. To address this we have taken the original shift mechanism and modified it to increase the shift gate pre-load. The result is...

    Curtains for Coupes

I wonder if any of you are thinking of what is about to take place in the Viper Nation? In a year or less you will not be able to buy a new Viper GTS coupe. Yes, the convertible comes to us as an 03 with no stablemate. The earliest prediction of a coupe coming back to market will be 05 or...

    Wing debate

It is difficult to ask anyone to give up their expensive hard earned research in aerodynamics as applied to Vipers but a few kind souls have contributed things to me, and I share them with you here. As a general assumption, you can expect a well done rear wing to generate 300#s of negative lift...

    Racing Vipers in Orlando??

The Skip Thomas Viper Racing League, part of the Viper Days Racing Series, will be at Sebring Sept 29 and 30. We can use the support, there will be 20 or more Viper Race cars competing in one of the four races that week-end.

    8 hours for an alignment!?!?!?

When Speedway Dodge told you 8 hrs I doubt that he was referring to actual working time on the car. A good Service Advisor will normally schedule an oops window of time in case the previous car does not meet completion on schedule or yours does not. Another closely held secret: If the Dodge...
